Well, can you believe we are fast approaching midterms already!
Here is what is going on in Honors:
In 4th Grade Reading, we have been learning about what a socratic seminar is and the procedures for participating in one so it is a successful dialogue and discussion. We read the book Frederick by Leo Lionni and have been analyzing and practicing our discussion skills, written expression, and mindtime. Next week, we will be jumping into our first literature book Holes by Louis Sachar. We will be focusing on literary elements such as setting, character analysis, theme and inference. We also have been working on our Greek/Latin Roots. We will have a root test once we accumulate 10 root cards. We are halfway there. Students should be studying their roots daily. Lastly, the students are learning 4 Level sentences. So far, we have covered the first 3 levels. Students should know the 8 parts of speech (Level 1), the subject and predicate (Level 2), and phrases (Level 3). In the next few weeks, we will begin working with Level 4 which is clauses and types of sentences.
In 4th Grade Math, we have been focusing on problem solving strategies. Next week, we will focus on place value and decimals in Chapter 1 of the math text.
ILR- Just a reminder that students need to be reading 30 minutes a night (5 days a week) and filling out their logs. I have conferenced with all students over their book choices. As it gets closer to the due date, we will review the details of their book projects.
