Reading in 4th-6th Grade- Mrs. Wilhelm
WELCOME BACK!
Lit Studies-We are jumping into our next literature studies in the upcoming weeks. In 4th Grade, we will be reading The Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe. In 5th Grade, students will be reading My Brother Sam is Dead. This book correlates fantastically with the student’s studies in Social Studies right now. Lastly, my 6th Graders will be reading The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. What a classic novel! In all grades this quarter, we will be working on annotating the text, comprehension, vocabulary, as well as having many Socratic Seminars regarding theme and practicing using text citations to back up our opinions and thoughts. We are busy!
Book Project Q2- The written Book Projects for 4th Grade (Character Advice Letter), 5th Grade ( Book Review) are due on March 4th to Google Classroom. My 6th Graders will be completing the Character For a Day/Wax Museum Presentation on March 9th from 5:00-5:30. All explanations and rubrics have been given and can be found on my website. Your student must choose a book in their new AR level as well as new genre. This book must be chosen and reviewed with me by Friday, January 15th. Once all book conferences have occurred, I will go over the projects in even more greater detail in class.
HEADS UP! 4TH GRADERS!!!! I am taking all of my 4th Grade Honors students on a field trip to see the play “The Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe” on February 9th. We will be gone from 9-11:45. Students should be back in time to eat lunch with their grade level. Permission slips were sent home on Wednesday. Please return those slips with the $1 fee by Friday, January 15th.
Classroom needs- As always, I could use more sharpened pencils and paper towel rolls! Lastly, I could really use any donations of small sticky notes to help with the annotations of text! I would love to give each student a small yellow, pink, orange, and green sticky note set. Thanks.
Math in Grades 4th-6th-Mrs. Wilhelm
My 4th Graders are still learning how to divide, but now we are working on 2 digit divisors and 3-4 digit dividends. This is such a huge developmental skill, so we are taking our time and do a lot of practice. There is no Dynamath magazine for January. My 5th Graders have been working hard on volume and surface area of prisms and pyramids. After volume and surface area, we will get into more fractions, decimals, and percents. Scholastic Math for January is due 2/1.
Lastly, my 6th Graders are learning all about algebraic expressions. This is a new skill for some. I encourage all students to do extra practice problems should they need additional practice. Scholastic Math for January is due 2/1.
I hope you have a fantastic day!
