Reading in 4th-6th Grade- Mrs. Wilhelm
Lit Studies-We are wrapping up our literature studies with in class projects that dissect and analyze the books we have read. The students LOVED the in class novels. Now that these novels are complete, the students are working on an in class project and presentation that is associated with the novel and extends their learning. We watched the movies of these novels and will begin writing a contrast/comparison of the book to the movie in class as well. All projects will be presented and due by 12/18.
WordMasters Competition-The first Word Masters Competition was a success! The students stated that they felt they were totally prepared. I submitted all results and we are awaiting the rankings among the other competing teams. Stay tuned.
Book Project Q2- The written Book Projects for 4th Grade ( Book Review) and 6th Grade ( Character Advice Letter) are due 12/11 to Google Classroom. All explanations and rubrics can be found on my website. The 5th Grade Wax Museum Presentation will be on 12/16 from 5:00-5:30pm.
HEADS UP! 5TH GRADERS!!!! We have discussed the Character for a Day Quarter 2 Book Project Celebration in class. We discussed possible props and stances as well as the plot summary on the index card. Each student will be given an index card to write their presentation on. On December 14 & 15th, we will be practicing our stances and presentations. Students must have their written presentation on the notecard in class that day so they can prepare and practice. Quarter 2 Character For a Day Wax Museum is December 16th from 5:00-5:30 in the hall near Room 310B (Honors Room). All students need to be dressed and in position at 4:45pm.
Classroom needs- I could use more sharpened pencils after the new year!
Math in Grades 4th-6th-Mrs. Wilhelm
My 4th Graders are still learning how to divide. This is such a huge developmental skill, so we are taking our time and doing a lot of practice. We will wrap up Ch. 3 before break and jump into long division of 2 digit divisors in January.
My 5th Graders have been working hard on multiplying and dividing fractions. We will be jumping into volume and surface area of prisms and pyramids before break and will finish up in January. After volume, we will get into more fractions, decimals, and percents.
Lastly, my 6th Graders are learning all about percents! We will wrapping up our unit on percents before break and jumping into Chapter 5-Expressions and Equations.
The first Math Olympiad Competition was a success! Many students felt like the competition was much easier than how we were practicing in class. They felt totally prepared. I submitted all results and we are awaiting the rankings among the other competing teams. More info to come.
Scholastic Math & Dynamath magazine will be completed in a different way this month. We will be doing some of the pages in class and a few will be assigned for homework.
I hope you have a fantastic day!
Mrs. Wilhelm
