Here is the latest news in Honors!
4th Grade Reading-In reading, we are continuing our literature study on Holes. We are learning the literary elements, vocabulary, and comprehension. Students are desperately trying to figure out what all the digging is about! Students did a fantastic job on the first book project. I was so impressed with their Wax Museum presentations! They all looked fantastic and performed beautifully! Thank you to all the parents for helping them prepare for this book project and for taking the time to attend our Wax Museum. What a fun night it was!
4th Grade Math-In Math, we are moving right along. Chapter 2 is introducing prime factorization, powers and exponents, and multiplication and division of whole numbers. Also, our first DynaMath magazine was due. Students do have the ability to make math connections should they need to on DynaMath. All corrections are due by 10/12. The end of quarter is fast approaching. We will be wrapping up Chapter 2 next week and grades will be cut on October 16.
5th Grade Reading- Students did a fantastic job on the first book project. I was so impressed with the advice letters, the connections, and their writing. Excellent!
We have introduced a language competition this week. Students will be participating in the WordMasters Challenge. This is an analogy competition that studies words, definitions, parts of speech, relationships, and connections. Over the next 6-8 weeks, we will be working with 25 words to prepare for our first challenge. Our first challenge will be November 23rd. The students are pumped and so am I!
Lastly, we are continuing our literature novel in class this week, Tuck Everlasting. What a fantastic book to study literary elements, theme, vocabulary, and comprehension. Last week, we had a socratic seminar discussing mortality vs. immortality. What a deep and thoughtful discussion.
5th Grade Math- In Math, the students are working really hard. We are now working in Chapter 3 which cover computation of multi-digit number. Also, our first Scholastic Math magazine was due. Students do have the ability to make math connections should they need to on Scholastic Math. All corrections are due by 10/12. The end of quarter is fast approaching. We will be wrapping up Chapter 3 next week and grades will be cut on October 16.
6th Grade Reading- Students did a fantastic job on the first book project. I was so impressed with the book reviews, the connections, and their writing. Excellent! We are continuing our literature study on Westing Game. This book is fantastic! We will continue to work on the literary elements, vocabulary, and comprehension skills. This week we are focusing on character analysis by developing our suspect lists and our Wanted Posters of our top suspects. We will also be having a few socratic seminars as this novel deals with themes such as appearances and identity.
6th Grade Math-The students have been working hard so far this first quarter. We have jumped forward a bit into Chapter 3 which covers integers and rational numbers. Also, our first Scholastic Math magazine was due. Students do have the ability to make math connections should they need to on Scholastic Math. All corrections are due by 10/12. The end of quarter is fast approaching. We will be wrapping up Chapter 3 next week and grades will be cut on October 16.
