Important Honors News:

Pi Day-A big thank you for all the donations on Pi Day! Students had a fabulous time and are bellies were full. Thank you!!!!!

4th Grade

In Reading, we are jumping into our Poetry Unit. We will be discussing all types of poetry as well as learning how to read poetry for critical analysis and evaluation. We will also be reading poetry for literary responses and expressions. In the conclusion of our unit, we will be reciting poetry for others as well as performing a Reader’s Theater. After our poetry unit, we should be able to complete one more literature study covering Bridge to Teribithia.

ILR- The 4th Quarter Independent Literature Requirement has been assigned and is due 5/5. All information is on my website.

Students are required to:

    1. Choose a book in their AR level and take an AR test on it
    2. Write a 3 paragraph summary and post to Google Classroom
    3. Create a game about their book

Greek & Latin Roots- We have jumped right back in! Our next test covering roots 1-70 will be on April 7th. Make sure you are studying your quizlets or the quizlet on the Google Classroom website.

In Math, we are learning algebra and how to follow order of operations! We are focusing on expressions and equations along with coordinate grids. Our next test will be on March 31st. Next up: Geometry and Measurement!

The Quarter 4 Math Projects have been assigned. Students are going to tie in Geometry with math. Students have been assigned an Origami Project. All information is on my website and students were given instructions and a rubric. The final projects are due 5/3.

5th Grade

In Reading, we are working on grammar through poetry. We are analyzing poetry as well as practicing and reviewing grammar topics that we use in 4 Level sentences.

In Math, we are learning about Area and Measurement. We are learning how to find the area of triangles, parallelograms, and trapezoids. Next up, we will be jumping into volume and surface area.

6th Grade

In Reading, we are working on specific aspects of poetry. We have already compared and contrasted poetry and prose. This upcoming week, we will be analyzing poetry as well as reviewing the figurative language parts of it such as personification. In the conclusion of our unit, we will be reciting poetry in a Poetry Slam. After our poetry unit, we should be able to complete one more literature study covering Tom Sawyer.

In Math, we are learning about Statistics. We are learning about unbiased and biased samples, collecting data, choosing graphs to display data, and comparing populations. Basically, we are taking everything we have learned in 5th grade, in STEAM with Mrs. Day, and taking it one step further in Honors.

The Quarter 4 Math Projects have been assigned. Students are going to tie in what we are learning in math. This week, students have chosen their “sports” team, determined the 4 areas of data, and are starting their research. All instructions and rubrics have been distributed and can be found on my website. The project is due 5/5.

Skills Books #8-10 for Quarter 4 will be graded and recorded with a due date of 5/12.
