4th Grade-Happy Pi Day Friday!
I wanted to take just a moment to update you on some classroom news.
In Honors Reading, so as to prepare for our next novel study, My Side of the Mountain by Jean George, we will be pairing a non-fiction reading with this book. The students will then complete an in class project on the non-fiction reading as well as an in class research project that correlates to our novel. Lastly, we will be incorporating the Wonderland Garden into our study by learning about ethnobotony with Mrs. Klein. This next novel study will be fantastic and I can’t wait to jump in after Spring Break.
In Honors Math, we have wrapped up multiplying decimals and jumping into dividing decimals. There are a few students who are still struggling with division of decimals by decimals. I will continue to work with the students on this concept, but would love if you could help as well. Our next chapter after Spring Break, will be fractions! We will be working with fractions for about 6 weeks and then jump into a little pre-algebra. Dynamath magazine is optional this month (for some). I have used it as a challenge activity for extra credit for some, but for others it is mandatory but will only help not hurt their grade. It is due 4/1.
Pi Day was today! We did many fun activities in both reading and math. In reading, we read Sir Cumference and wrote Pi-Kus ( Haikus) about pi. In math, our students displayed their knowledge of pi to one another through song, dance, or art as well as we had a competition as to who could say the most digits in Pi. And, of course, we ate pie in both classes! Congratulations to Mac McCoy for saying the most digits in Pi. He/She won a $10 Dairy Queen gift card. Congratulations to Zoe Cartier for most educational, but entertaining skit. This group won king size candy bars of their choice. What a fun day!
5th Grade-Happy Pi Day Friday!!!
In reading, the students are busy creating a time capsule for the novel, My Brother Sam is Dead, as their final book project. If they used their time wisely, they should have be able to get the time capsule completed in class. They will present their time capsules after Spring Break.
In Math, students wrapped up algebra and the distributive property. Next up, Geometry!!!

6th Grade-Happy Friday!
I wanted to update you on the classroom activities for Honors.
In Honors Reading, we just finished The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The students are begging me to read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. I wish we could, but I have encouraged them to read the abridged version this summer. This past week, we worked on protagonists vs. antagonists. We will be creating an in class book project the week after spring break.
ILR- Book Project Q3- WOW! The sixth grade PILOTS did a fantastic job at the Wax Museum on Wednesday! I was so impressed. I hope you enjoyed our presentation!
Skills books- For the Quarter 3 report card, I will be recording grades for Skills Books 4-8. Quarter 3 ended today, 3/11!
In Honors Math, we wrapped up Chapter 6. We learned all about algebraic equations and inequalities. After Spring Break, we will be jumping into Geometry and measuring figures. Students will be needing a protractor and a ruler to draw geometric shapes.
