This is our last Honors newsletter for the 2015-2016 school year! Can you believe it?
I have so enjoyed teaching Honors this year and have treasured my time with your students. I am looking forward to returning next year and will be making some curriculum changes. With that in mind, I am requesting that each family take a survey to give me some feedback on Honors this year. This feedback will guide me this summer as I plan out the 2016-2017 school year. I am anxious to hear from you and I hope you take the time to fill out my brief survey. Thank you in advance.

In Honors Reading, we had a successful Shel Silverstein Reader’s Theater! Thank you to the moms who were able to attend! I hope you were entertained. This week, we have been busy playing our ILR board games! I am so impressed! These games are insightful, creative, relative, and FUN! I have told the students that if they would like to keep their games, they can, or they can donate them to Honors. It doesn’t matter to me! Lastly, we will be taking end of the year benchmarks which will give me information on where to jump off from next school year!
In Honors Math, we are finishing up the book! YEP, we will be finishing the book. We have been working on measurement, order of operations, and geometry. We will also be taking our end of the year benchmarks. I am so impressed with how much this group of students has accomplished and learned.
Honors for next year- I will be returning as the Gifted Specialist next year! Yay! Since the Spring testing scores have come out, I have received numerous phone calls and emails regarding gifted placement. All children who are currently in my program will stay in the program unless you are contacted by me through either a phone call or letter. I will be sending new flex contracts out for the next school year, but I do not anticipate any deletions to our program only additions. Basically, no news is good news! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

In Math, we have been working on our Scholastic Magazine as well as logic puzzles. We rounded the week out with taking our end of the year benchmarks which will give me great information for next year.

In Honors Math, we finished up Ch. 9 on Probability. The students took the final test yesterday. This was a brand new subject to most and I am impressed with how quickly most students grasped the concepts. We did not get to Ch. 10 on Statistics in the book. I have encouraged my students to do a self study this summer over this chapter as their math teacher next school year is assuming that we did cover that material. Mrs. Day did cover a lot of statistics in her STEM block, but I still would encourage your child to take a look at that unit and try to understand the concepts before entering middle school. Lastly, our school license for ixL will still be available this summer to students.
