Class Notes
We are entering the home stretch with just three weeks of school remaining. The final countdown will be here before you know it!
Wednesday is an Early Release Day with a 12:15 p.m. dismissal.
Thursday is Field Day. Third graders will participate in a rotation of fun activities from 12:30–2:00 p.m. Please make sure your child has sunscreen, sneakers, and a water bottle. It's also a great day to wear a Mitchell T-shirt!
This week, we will continue Unit 4 of Fishtank. Students will read How Do Animals Adapt? by Bobbie Kalman to learn about animal adaptations and explore how animals survive and thrive in their environments.
We will also complete Unit 12 of Fundations. Lessons will focus on spelling and decoding multisyllabic words, reviewing the soft sounds of c and g when followed by e, i, or y, and learning the trigraph -dge. Students will also continue practicing the silent e spelling rule when adding suffixes.
In math this week, students will solve real-world problems inspired by a county fair! They will work with measurements of weight, liquid volume, and time while practicing addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Students will also participate in activities that require them to determine what information is needed to solve a problem, ask thoughtful questions, and explain their mathematical reasoning. These lessons will strengthen problem-solving skills and deepen students’ understanding of how math is used in everyday situations.
In science, students will continue to explore how wind and water change Earth's surface through the processes of weathering and erosion. Using hands-on investigations and models, they will observe how landforms can be broken down and reshaped over time, record their observations, and connect their findings to real-world examples.
In this week's Second Step/Social Emotional Learning lessons, students will learn a problem-solving process that can help them handle conflicts respectfully and effectively. They will practice identifying problems without using blaming language, consider different perspectives, and learn how calming down first can help them think clearly and make better choices.
Repeat Announcements:
From Mr. Martin, our P.E. teacher: We will be holding a makeup session for the bike riding portion of the Bike Rodeo for third graders who were not able to fully participate during our scheduled Bike Rodeo this week. The makeup session will take place before school on Wednesday, 6/3/26, from 7:30–8:00 a.m. on the blacktop. The riding session itself should only take approximately 5–10 minutes, but I will be available throughout that entire window so your child may arrive at any time that works best for your family. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mystery Reader
Thank you to Mrs. Allen and Grandma for being our last Mystery Readers of the year. And thank you to all the parents for joining our class throughout the entire year. I know your 3rd graders loved having you read to the class and encourage a love of reading.
Library Reminder:
Our book swap day in the Media Center is every Wednesday. Please help your child remember to return their library books.
