Class Notes
I hope you all stayed warm during this chilly weekend! We enjoyed watching the start of the Olympics and will be cheering on the Patriots later tonight—go Pats!
Next week is February Break. I hope you enjoy some extra time with your families!
Last Friday, we celebrated the 100th day of school—what a milestone!
This Friday, we will be making Compliment Collages in class. Please be sure your 3rd grader writes thoughtful compliments for each classmate and returns the completed hearts to school on or before Wednesday. Extra materials can be downloaded HERE.
We will celebrate Friendship Day on Friday. Students are welcome to bring in a favorite board game to share. We will spend the afternoon creating compliment collages and playing games together.
Many students have asked if they may also make traditional valentines for their classmates—absolutely! If your child chooses to do so, please be sure they make a valentine for every classmate so everyone feels included. Thank you!
In Fundations, we will continue with Unit 8, which focuses on the consonant-le syllable type.
In ELA, we will continue with Fishtank Unit 3, reading and responding to stories from the anthology Tales Our Abuelita Told.
A big thank-you to the PTC for funding a wonderful enrichment program in our classroom—Art Quest! Art Quest is a unique educational program that builds critical thinking skills and visual literacy through close observation of works of art. Former kindergarten teacher extraordinaire Emily Dreifus will be our instructor on Wednesday.
In Math, we will continue Unit 4, focusing on multiplication fact strategies. We are beginning to practice multiplication fact fluency, and any extra practice at home is greatly appreciated. Here is a set of multiplication fact flashcards.
In Science, we will be making our own LED flashlights and learning how switches work.
Looking ahead to right after break: students will begin making DoodleBots—robotic drawing devices! For this design challenge, we will need clean, empty containers (yogurt cups, pint-sized berry containers, small deli containers, etc.). Each child will use one container, but having a variety to choose from is always helpful. Any extra containers will be shared with our classroom community.
Thank you for your continued support!
Repeat Announcements:
Warm Clothes and Footwear
The heat is ON! Now that the heaters are running, our classroom can get quite toasty. Pro tip: students should dress in layers so they can bundle up for recess but have a lighter layer to stay comfortable indoors. If your child wears rain or snow boots to school, please send in a pair of indoor shoes, sneakers, or even slippers. They’ll be much more comfortable moving around the classroom and school in dry shoes.
Mystery Reader
Thank you to Mrs. Sprong (Brennan's mom), last week's Mystery Reader. Would you like to volunteer as our next Mystery Reader? Click HERE to sign up.

Library Reminder:
Our book swap day in the Media Center is every Wednesday. Please help your child remember to return their library books.
