Week 22

Class Notes:

We will travel to the Commonwealth Museum on Thursday. Please bring your lunch!

Permission forms for our NEXT trip (Massachusetts State house on March 1st) were sent home on Friday. Link to electronic copy HERE. Thank you to the parent chaperones who have already volunteered to join us on this trip. All parents are welcome to meet us at the Statehouse that day. Just let me know if you're interested and and I'll send along the details.

In Readers Workshop, we will explore how characters face growing troubles in a story. We will also discover the different roles that secondary characters play in a story (sidekick, mentor, or antagonist).

In Writers Workshop, we will write more literary essays, explore mentor texts and work on adding transition words to our writing.

We will wrap up Unit 8 of Fundations and focus on the final stable syllable: -sion (mansion) and -tion (vacation).

Math lessons will focus on using properties of operations and place value understanding to develop strategies to multiply within 100 and to multiply one-digit numbers by a multiple of 10.

We will continue to  explore the history of Massachusetts and conduct research about our state.

Cursive Letters: We will continue to learn how to write in cursive (letters c, a, d, g, h, t, p and e).

Celebrating Friendship

We will celebrate FRIENDSHIP on February 14th. We will make Compliment Posters in class. ASSIGNMENT: At home, students will write thoughtful compliments for each other and pass them out in class. Please review the INSTRUCTIONS with your 3rd grader. Compliments are due back in class on or before Friday, February 9th.

Many students have asked if they can also make traditional Valentines for their classmates. Absolutely! If your 3rd grader chooses to make valentines, please be sure your student makes a valentine for ALL of their classmates so everyone feels included. Thank you!
