I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend. To our families who observe Diwali, we send our warmest wishes for a joyous celebration.
Reminder: Curriculum Night is this Thursday, October 16th. Our grade level present a traditional, adults-only Curriculum Night. Parents and guardians are invited to join us in the classroom from 7:00–7:30 p.m. for a formal presentation. During this session, we will share key information about our curriculum, classroom expectations, and the developmental milestones of 8- and 9-year-olds.
This week we will complete Fundations Unit 2, which focuses on suffixes and the 1-1-1 rule (a rule that tells us when to double the last consonant in certain words, for example: tapping).
We will finish reading our second chapter book, My Name is María Isabel, and discuss lessons learned.
In math, we will finish Unit 1: Introducing Multiplication. Students will relate the idea of equal groups to the structure of an array and learn that multiplication is commutative (2 x 1 = 1 x 2).
In science, we will continue our “Survivor” (Life Science) unit, learning how fossils provide evidence or clues of life long ago.
Picture retakes will take place on November 4th. Please let me know if you would like your child to have their photo taken again.
Lost and Found: All unclaimed items in the lost and found will be donated later this week. Please check for any missing clothing before it’s too late.
Warm Clothes and Footwear
As the weather cools, please make sure your child has an extra layer in their backpack. Our classroom heat will not be turned on for a few more weeks; our room is quite chilly! Students should also have appropriate outdoor gear (jacket, hat, gloves, etc.) so they are comfortable outside. If your child wears rain or snow boots to school, please send in a pair of indoor shoes or sneakers. They will be much more comfortable moving around the classroom and school in dry shoes. Thank you for your help with this.
Mystery Reader
Thank you to last week’s Mystery Readers: Mira’s mom, Ayzah’s mom, and Molly’s mom. Would you like to volunteer as our next Mystery Reader? Click HERE to sign up.
