Welcome Back!
I hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and enjoyed some quality time with family and friends.
We have an exciting week ahead...
Students are beginning a mini-research project about life cycles. Using the book What is a Life Cycle? by Bobbie Kalman, students will research the life cycle of an organism and learn how scientists use diagrams to communicate information clearly. We will explore how diagrams help readers understand changes over time, recognize patterns, and make complex ideas easier to understand. Students will practice creating their own informative diagrams to support their research writing.
Fishtank lessons will also focus on grammar skills, including forming and correctly using comparative and superlative adjectives and adverbs (for example: tall, taller, tallest and quickly, more quickly, most quickly).
We will continue with Unit 6: Measurement in Math and focus on telling time. Students will learn to tell and write time to the nearest minute and to show a given time on an analog clock. They will also solve elapsed time problems with an unknown start time, unknown duration, or unknown end time.
In Science, we will begin investigating as geologists. We will observe places changed by wind, water, or other natural sources. We will explore real-life examples of weathering and erosion by taking an "erosion walk" around the school, making observations about how wind and water shape the landscape. On Friday, students will use stream tables to explore how erosion and weathering shape the Earth’s surface. Through hands-on investigations, they will observe how water moves soil and changes landforms over time. Students should plan on getting a little dirty during this exciting experiment-filled lesson!
From Mr. Martin, our P.E. teacher: We will be holding a makeup session for the bike riding portion of the Bike Rodeo for third graders who were not able to fully participate during our scheduled Bike Rodeo this week. The makeup session will take place before school on Wednesday, 6/3/26, from 7:30–8:00 a.m. on the blacktop. The riding session itself should only take approximately 5–10 minutes, but I will be available throughout that entire window so your child may arrive at any time that works best for your family. Please let me know if you have any questions.
