Keeping your department’s website up-to-date is essential for showcasing the incredible work we do here at CLA. From highlighting community engagement and research to providing valuable student resources, your website is a key tool in telling our story. This page offers an overview of how we manage and update your site, along with helpful web resources and UAF website policies.
Updates can be requested anytime by sending an email to the CLA PIO Office at cla-pio@alaska.edu. We ask that these emails come from each department's chair or website Faculty POC (below). This is to not only streamline our communications, but to prevent conflicting requests.
While the PIO Office tries to answer each email as quickly as possible, please bear in mind that due to our team's commitment to servicing 18 departments, there are occasions when responses may be delayed. If you have not received a reply within two business days, please follow-up via email. Your inquiries are important to us, and we are dedicated to providing you with the assistance you need.
Pages that might need more updates than others include:
Degrees & Programs Offered Pages
If your department is offering a new degree option, let us know so we can feature it on this page. Some departments also choose to list each course they offer, which we'll help you update as needed.
Student Resources
The student resources page is designed to help students maximize their degree experience. This is an ideal spot to link to community organizations, student clubs on campus, special funding opportunities, or internships. If you come across something that would be a valuable addition, just let us know.
Contact Us
At the start of each semester, please verify and update contact information for all faculty and staff. This includes office numbers, office hours, phone numbers, and titles. Updates can continue to be made throughout the semester as needed.

Web Banners
Web banners are the large images at the top of your website located directly underneath the navigation bar. They’re an eye-catching way to highlight important and timely information or opportunities. Some departments, like Theatre & Film, use this space for a video showcasing their work, while others, like Communication, use it to share key details about degree tracks. We’re working on creating banners for each department, but if you have specific content you’d like featured, let us know!
The CLA PIO office is dedicated to highlighting our department's experiential learning opportunities and the groundbreaking research conducted by both students and faculty. By promoting these initiatives, we support UAF's mission to achieve R1 University status, emphasizing our commitment to excellence in research and education. Our efforts ensure that the innovative work within our department is recognized and celebrated, contributing to UAF's growing reputation as a leading research institution.
CLA Gems
CLA has launched a newsroom called "CLA Gems" to showcase the achievements, research, and activities of our faculty, staff, and students. This feature works like a dynamic news feed, continuously updating with new content. Relevant articles are displayed on department webpages, featured in the CLA eNewsletter, and shared on social media, ensuring that our community's accomplishments are recognized. Each department will have its own Gems page, along with a central CLA Gems page, to highlight news, events, and achievements. If your department is hosting an event or has news to share, you can submit a gem by emailing the CLA PIO Office.

Fine Art Archive
The College of Liberal Arts' Fine Art Archive is a repository showcasing past MFA and BFA thesis exhibitions hosted by our art department. This collection offers a glimpse into the artistic exploration and innovation of our talented students under the guidance of their department committee, presenting an array of artworks, narratives, and expressions that reflect the richness of our community's experiences and voices.

Alumni Stories
Each UAF CLA department will have an Alumni Stories page featuring testimonials and success stories from graduates. These pages highlight alumni achievements to attract prospective students and showcase career outcomes. We're inviting alumni to share their stories through the “Tell Us Your Story!” form, with submissions featured on department websites, social media, and more.
By celebrating our alumni’s accomplishments, we strengthen connections that inspire current and future students. Please share the form with your contacts—we're building these pages throughout the semester and want to include as many stories as possible!
Community Outreach & Partnerships
Community engagement and providing transformational experiences are central to UAF's mission and strategic goals. We want to highlight how your department actively engages with the public and prepares students for life beyond their degrees.
To showcase these efforts, we’re launching department-specific Community Outreach & Partnerships pages starting in AY24-25. These pages will feature the organizations—both local and beyond—that your department regularly partners with, such as those offering internships to your students or collaborating on community projects. We’ll also be highlighting events, opportunities for involvement, and other outreach activities that your faculty, staff, and students are involved in.
We’ll be reaching out to gather the names of your partner organizations and details about your department’s community engagement efforts.
Giving Pages
Each department has a Giving Page, accessible via the "Give to ___" button in the upper right corner of the navigation bar. This page allows donors to explore various causes they can support, including direct contributions to the department, with specific scholarship and program funds highlighted.
We aim to enhance these pages with more details about the impact of donations. A pie chart at the bottom shows how donations to the College of Liberal Arts were allocated last year, and departments with significant donations will have customized charts.
For more details, visit the Fundraising & Donor Relations page.
Work With Us
Every department’s navigation menu now includes a "Work With Us" link under the Contact Us drop-down. This link directs visitors to the CLA Work With Us page, where all open CLA positions are listed with links to their UA Careers postings.
If your department needs a separate Work With Us page for specific opportunities—like seeking volunteers for events or announcing club officer elections—just let us know, and we can create one for you.

We're in the process of implementing a new system to deliver monthly Google Analytics reports for each department’s website. These reports will offer valuable insights, such as identifying your highest-performing page, top traffic sources, user locations, and more. We can even track specific interactions, like how often a particular button is clicked.
In the meantime, feel free to request a copy of your website’s analytics.
