Photography

Our photography style sets our brand apart and is crucial to our communication. Whether utilizing existing photos or capturing new ones, each image should reflect UAF’s core personality traits: dependable, unassuming, welcoming, and industrious. Photos should make an immediate impact, featuring a clear subject, compelling composition, and a clean, uncluttered background.

CLA Resources

CLA Photo Library

We are actively expanding our CLA photo library and encourage all departments and clubs to have a photographer at their events, research presentations, experiential learning projects, and candid moments. Your photos will help capture the essence of CLA from your perspective. Top photos are submitted to the UAF photo gallery for possible inclusion.

CLA Photographer

Our PIO, Sarah Manriquez, also serves as an occasional photographer for CLA events. If you need an event photographer, simply fill out our Marketing & Promotion Submission Form or contact her at cla-pio@alaska.edu to check availability.

She is also your contact for scheduling headshots for your department's contact page, which should be updated every five years, or more frequently if needed. She will arrange a department photo session annually.

UAF Resources

The following information is taken directly from University Relations' photography page.

UAF Photo Gallery

University Relations maintains an ever-expanding collection of professional photographs showcasing the people, places and activities that tell UAF's unique story.

Please submit an online image request form for high-resolution copies suitable for publication.

The images in the gallery are just some of the photos in a much larger catalog. If you don't see what you need in the online collection, more images may be available. In that case, contact the photo manager at uaf-photo@alaska.edu or 907-474-7939. All UAF images are protected by copyright. Please don't use them without permission. Appropriate use of the UAF logo may be required to use the images. Image requests are handled as quickly as possible but sometimes take a few days to complete. Please plan ahead to accommodate a one-week turnaround time for most requests.

Anyone can buy images from the online collection for personal use. You can order the image as a print, on a tote bag or mug, a T-shirt -- there are lots of ideas for gifts or a memento for yourself. From the photo gallery, just click the yellow "Buy Photos" button.

Model Releases

Photos in UAF presentations, publications, signage and advertising in print and/or online must have the consent of identifiable individuals on a signed model release. Permission of persons obviously posing for a photo is implied, so no release is needed in such instances. Other exceptions include photos of individuals participating in a public performance (theater, athletics, dance, etc.) or public crowd shots in which no individual is singled out.

Photo Crediting

Photo credits should be included wherever possible. For official university photography, the credit should be worded as “UAF photo by [name of photographer].” If the photographer isn’t known or photos are provided by the subject of a story, use “Photos courtesy of [name, department or organization].”
