પુષ્પક વિમાન

રામાયણમાં પુષ્પક વિમાનના ઉલ્લેખ સાંભળીને કે વાંચીને લોકો દાવો કરે છે કે આપણા પ્રાચીન પૂર્વજોને એરોપ્લેન બનવતા આવડતું હતું. અને તેને આધારે ઋષિમુનિઓની અને આપણી સંસ્કૃતિની મહાનતાના બણગા ફૂંક્યા કરે છે. આ એક મોટો ભ્રમ છે.
વાલ્મિકી રામાયણમાં उत्तर काण्ड ના ૪૧ મા સર્ગમાં પુષ્પક વિમાન પોતે રામની પાસે આવીને કહે છે કે તેને કુબેરે મોકલ્યું હતું. રામે તેને જ્યાં રહેવું હોય ત્યાં રહેવા કહીને વિદાય કર્યું હતું. પછી ૭૪ મા સર્ગમાં રામે તેને યાદ કરીને બોલાવ્યું હતું. બીજા પ્રસંગોએ પણ દેવો પોતપોતાના વિમાનો લઈને ઉપસ્થિત થયા હતા. અર્થાત પુષ્પક, જેના મોટા મોટા દવાઓ કરવામાં આવે છે તેવું એરોપ્લેન જેવું, યાંત્રિક વાહન નહોતું.
જેને પ્રતિષ્ઠીત લેખક શ્રી ગુણવંત શાહ "હૃદયકેન્દ્રી રસનિષ્પત્તિનું કલ્પનોત્થ સર્જન" જણાવે છે તે પુરાણકથાના આધારે મોટા ખોટા દાવા કરવા તે અનુચીત છે.
જે પ્રજાને સાયકલ બનાવતા પણ નહોતું આવડતું તે પ્રજા એરોપ્લેન બનાવતી હતી એમ માનવું તે અંધશ્રદ્ધાની અને બીજાઓને જણાવવું તે ધૃષ્ટતાની પરાકાષ્ઠા છે.
આ ગોટાળો ઉત્પન્ન થવાનું કારણ 'એરોપ્લેન' શબ્દનું ખોટું ભાષાંતર છે. જેણે પણ તે અનુવાદ કર્યો તેણે અજાણતાં મોટી ગેરસમજ પેદા કરી દીધી હતી. જેવી રીતે station શબ્દનું ભાષાંતર કર્યા વિના તત્સમ શબ્દ સ્ટેશન વાપરીએ છીએ તેવી રીતે aeroplane નું ભાષાંતર કરવાને બદલે એરોપ્લેન શબ્દ જ વાપરવો જોઈતો હતો. હવે સમજવું જોઈએ કે એરોપ્લેન એટલૅ વિમાન ખરું પણ વિમાન એટલે એરોપ્લેન નહીં જ નહીં.
અને ભારતની મહાનતાના દાવાઓ કરવાનું બંધ ના કરીએ તો ઓછું તો કરવું જ જોઈએ.
As response to the above, a friend sent me pdf copies of two books titled "The Vimanika Shastra" and "Bruhad Vimanashahshtra". It would have been unscientific to dismiss them as unscientific. Therefore I sent them out to many of my contacts by my email dated January 21, 2020 as follows:
This very important knowledge of our prehistoric ancestors should not be allowed to be ignored and go waste. Some of our HCls (Hindu Culture lovers) should form a business company to manufacture air-crafts based on these (and similar) books and also to operate air lines using the Vimans made by it.
I will send this email by bcc to many people. If you deem it proper, you may post it on social media of your choice. Let us see (1) how many HCls take up the challenging task and (2) how many investors buy the company's shares and (3) how many travelers prefer the proposed air line.
Let us put our money where our mouth is.
I request the recipients of this email to forward it to as many persons as possible and also to post it on any social media of their choice.

I wish I am a mechanical/meteorological engineer! I have forwarded to my son who always wanted a challenging project. Hope we will see an Indian Viman in our lifetime!. Thanks.
I replied:
I am glad to read this from you. My best wishes and blessings are with him. Normally I do not buy stocks. But as an exception, I will buy a few of his Viman company's shares. Thereby, I will have vested interest in the success of his company.
I am waiting for the prospectus of the new company.
