Devil’s Postpile National Monument near Mammoth Lakes has some of the most perfect rock columns in the world! About 100,000 years ago, a lava flow in the area cooled slowly into these symmetrical rods. Later on, glaciers scraped off the top of the lava flow and exposed the columns. At the top of the postpile, the ends of the columns look like floor tiles!
