On August 14, we counted 8 snowy plovers at Gazos Creek State Beach (5 unbanded and 3 banded). We had seen two of the banded plovers before (Lily and Violet). The Point Reyes Bird Observatory told us that the new banded bird (Belle) was born in July 2010 at a beach near Moss Landing (45 miles south). She's only a month old and the new girl in town!
