A huge meteor lit up the night skies of Utah and the Southwest today. The gigantic fireball flashed as bright as the sun over half a million square miles! It was traveling 50,000 miles per hour when it entered the atmosphere 35 miles high and 120 miles west of Salt Lake City. The shock wave was picked up by seismology instruments on the ground.
