Below is a cluster of Monarch butterflies in Pacific Grove (near Monterey). Thousands of Monarchs spend every winter there clustered on Eucalyptus trees. By March the butterflies fly north with the spring. Each generation of butterflies travels further north, laying eggs along the way. By November a new generation of butterflies returns south to Pacific Grove to spend winter back on the same Eucalyptus trees. Pacific Grove is so proud of its butterflies that it is nicknamed "Butterfly Town USA". Every fall there is a parade with children dressed as butterflies to celebrate the return of the Monarchs.
