The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway transports the world's largest rotating tram cars up the steepest mountain in North America. The tram cars are attached to steel cables that carry them over 2 1/2 miles from the desert floor to the mountain summit. The cars pass through 5 life zones - the equivalent of traveling from Mexico to Alaska in 10 minutes! The tram was such a challenge to build that it is considered an historic civil engineering landmark. The view from San Jacinto Mountain Station at 8,516 feet is spectacular!
