Dress: The Bride has MADE hereself ready. Does she have on or put on the bridal gown? The doctrines of Christ or the Commandments and traditions of men?

Deuteronomy 22:5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so [are] abomination unto the LORD thy God.

Commenting on this subject under the American Costume that came about in EG White's day (a forerunner to the pant suits of the 70's and what women wear today:

Some who believe the truth may think that it would be more healthful for the sisters to adopt the American costume, yet if that mode of dress would cripple our influence among unbelievers so that we could not so readily gain access to them, we should by no means adopt it, though we suffered much in consequence. But some are deceived in thinking there is so much benefit to be received from this costume. While it may prove a benefit to some, it is an injury to others.

I saw that God's order has been reversed, and His special directions disregarded, by those who adopt the American costume. I was referred to Deuteronomy 22:5: "The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God." God would not have His people adopt the so-called reform dress. It is immodest apparel, wholly unfitted for the modest, humble followers of Christ. {1T 421.2}

There is an increasing tendency to have women in their dress and appearance as near like the other sex as possible, and to fashion their dress very much like that of men, but God pronounces it abomination. "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety." 1 Timothy 2:9. {1T 421.3}

Those who feel called out to join the movement in favor of woman's rights and the so-called dress reform (the American Costume...pants for women) might as well sever all connection with the third angel's message. The spirit which attends the one cannot be in harmony with the other. The Scriptures are plain upon the relations and rights of men and women. Spiritualists have, to quite an extent, adopted this singular mode of dress. Seventh-day Adventists, who believe in the restoration of the gifts, are often branded as spiritualists. Let them adopt this costume, and their influence is dead. The people would place them on a level with spiritualists and would refuse to listen to them. {1T 421.4}

"In this time of persecution the faith of the Lord's servants will be tried. They have faithfully given the warning, looking to God and to His WORD ALONE. God's Spirit, moving upon their HEARTS, has constrained them to speak. Stimulated with holy zeal, and with the divine impulse strong upon them, they entered upon the performance of their duties without coldly calculating the consequences of speaking to the people the word which the Lord had given them. They have not consulted their temporal INTERESTS, nor sought to preserve their reputation or their lives. Yet WHEN the storm of opposition and reproach bursts upon them, some, overwhelmed with consternation, will be ready to exclaim: "Had we foreseen the consequences of our words, we would have held our peace." They are hedged in with difficulties. Satan assails them with fierce temptations. The work which they have undertaken seems far beyond their ability to accomplish. They are threatened with destruction. The enthusiasm which animated them is gone; yet they cannot turn back. Then, feeling their utter helplessness, they flee to the Mighty One for strength. They remember that the words which they have spoken were not theirs, but His who bade them give the warning. God put the truth into their hearts, and they could not forbear to proclaim it" Great Controversy, page 608.3.

God designed there should be a plain distinction between male and female dress, and has considered the matter of sufficient importance to give explicit directions in regard to it; for the same dress worn by both sexes would cause confusion, and great increase of crime. St. Paul would utter a rebuke, were he alive, and should behold females professing Godliness with this style of dress. “In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; but (which becometh women professing Godliness) with good works.” The mass of professed Christians utterly disregard the teachings of the Apostles, and wear gold, pearls and costly array. God's loyal people are the light of the world, and the salt of the earth. And they should ever remember that their influence is of value. Were they to exchange the extreme long, for the extreme short dress, they would, to a great extent, destroy their influence. Unbelievers, whom it is their duty to benefit, and seek to bring to the Lamb of God, would be disgusted. Many improvements can be made in the dress of females in reference to health, without making so great a change as to disgust the beholder" Selected Messages Book 2, p. 478.1 (Ellen G. White).

"The limbs, which should have even more covering than any other portion of the body, because farthest from the center of circulation, are often not suitably protected; while over the vital organs, where there is naturally more warmth than in other portions of the body, there is an undue proportion of covering. The heavy draperies often worn upon the back, induce heat and congestion in the sensitive organs which lie beneath. This fashionable attire is one of the greatest causes of disease among women. Perfect health depends upon perfect circulation. If the limbs are properly clothed, fewer skirts are needed. These should not be so heavy as to impede the motion of the limbs, nor so long as to gather the dampness and filth of the ground, and their weight should be suspended from the shoulders. The dress should fit easily, obstructing neither the circulation of the blood, nor a free, full, natural respiration. The feet should be suitably protected from cold and damp. Clad in this way, we can take exercise in the open air, even in the dew of morning or evening, or after a fall of snow or rain, without fear of taking cold. Exercise in the invigorating air of heaven is necessary to a healthy circulation of the blood. It is the best safeguard against colds, coughs, and the internal congestions which lay the foundation of so many diseases. True dress reform regulates every article of clothing. If those ladies who are failing in health would lay off their fashionable robes, clothe themselves suitably for out-door enjoyment, and exercise in the open air, carefully at first, increasing the amount as they can endure it, many of them might recover health, and live to bless the world with their example and the work of their hands. It is not the will of God that men and women should die prematurely, leaving their work unfinished. He would have us live out the full measure of our days, with every organ free to do its allotted work. Many complain of the providences of God when disease and death remove members of the household; but it is unjust to charge God with what is but the sure result of their own transgression of natural laws. CTBH 90.1

Fashionable mothers clothe their little girls as unhealthfully as they do themselves. Their waists are compressed at an early age, and the limbs are left with but slight protection, when the forces of nature need every advantage to enable them to perfect the physical frame. The limbs were not formed to endure exposure, as was the face. Children who are clothed according to fashion cannot be out-doors much, unless the weather is mild. Therefore they are kept in ill-ventilated rooms, for fear of the cold; and well they may be, with their fashionable style of clothing. But if they were comfortably clothed, it would not harm them to exercise freely in the open air summer or winter. Unhealthful dress brings many a child to a state of invalidism, or, which in many cases may be preferable, to an early death. Thus fashion fills the homes of its slaves with invalids, and our cemeteries with little graves" CTBH 90.2," Ms 109, 1909, par. 21.

"If all will exercise judgment and reasonable care in regard to clothing and diet, the blessings of the meeting may be enjoyed in health and comfort. The clothing should be varied according to the weather. During sudden changes, and the chill of morning andevening, warmer garments and additional wraps are essential to health. How to Dress the Babies

Mothers should dress their babies with reference to health. In the preparation of the little one's wardrobe, convenience and comfort should be sought before fashion or a desire to excite admiration. The mother often spends much time in embroidery and fancy work to make the little garments beautiful, doing this unnecessary work at the expense of her own health and that of the child. She bends over sewing that severely taxes eyes and nerves, when she should be enjoying pleasant exercise; and often she does not realize her obligation to cherish her strength, that she may be able to meet the demands that will be made upon her. PHJ June 1, 1905, par. 1

These garments which have consumed so much time are often wholly unfit to be placed on the little one, if its health is regarded. They are extravagantly long, preventing the free use of the muscles; and in addition, the body is girded with tight bands or waists, which hinder the action of the heart and lungs. PHJ June 1, 1905, par. 2

Many mothers think it necessary to compress the bodies of their infants to keep them in shape, as if, without tight bandages, they would be in danger of falling to pieces or becoming deformed. Are lambs and other young animals deformed because nature is left to do her work unhindered?—No; they are delicately and beautifully formed, and need no bands to give them shape. And God has molded the forms of babies also, and supplied them with bones and muscles sufficient for their support and to guard the delicate organs and limbs, before committing them to a mother's care. The infant should be dressed so that its body will not be the least compressed after taking a full meal. But often its clothing is ingeniously arranged to make it miserably uncomfortable. PHJ June 1, 1905, par. 3

Another wrong practise in the dressing of babies, which still prevails in some countries, is the custom of leaving bare the shoulders and arms. The air, coming in direct contact with the arms and circulating about the armpits, chills the sensitive portions of the body, and hinders the circulation of the blood. If the mother's neck and arms were thus exposed, she would shiver with cold; and how can she think that a delicate babe can endure the exposure? Some children may have at birth so strong a constitution that they can endure these exposures and live; but thousands of lives are sacrificed, and in tens of thousands of cases, the foundation is laid for a short invalid life, by bandaging the trunk and loading it with clothing while the shoulders and arms are left naked. The custom can not be too severely censured. PHJ June 1, 1905, par. 4

Mothers who thus treat a tender infant can not expect it to be quiet and healthy. The child frets and cries, and the mother, thinking it must be hungry, feeds it; but food only increases its suffering. Tight bands allow it no room to breathe. It screams, struggles, and pants for breath, and yet the mother does not suspect the cause. PHJ June 1, 1905, par. 5

The first garments to be worn by the child should be made of fine, soft material, with long sleeves, and little loose bodices, or waists, to support them from the shoulders. Thus warmth, protection, and comfort will be secured, and one of the chief causes of irritation and restlessness will be removed. The baby will have better health, and the mother will not find the care of her child so heavy a tax on her strength and time. PHJ June 1, 1905, par. 6

The Dress of Older Children

The waists of growing girls should not be compressed, or the limbs left with but slight protection, at an age when the forces of nature need every advantage to enable them to perfect the physical frame. With this insufficient protection, the girls can not be out of doors much unless the weather is mild. So they are kept in, often in ill-ventilated rooms, for fear of the cold. If they were comfortably clothed, it would benefit them to exercise freely in the open air, summer or winter. PHJ June 1, 1905, par. 7

Little boys also are often dressed so as to leave the lower limbs with far less protection than the upper part of the body. The limbs, being remote from the center of circulation, demand greater protection instead of less. They were not made to endure exposure, as was the face. PHJ June 1, 1905, par. 8

The arteries that convey the blood to the extremities are large, providing for a sufficient quantity of blood to afford warmth and nutrition. But when the limbs are insufficiently clad, the arteries and veins become contracted. Double labor is thrown upon theheart to force the blood into these chilled extremities. Weakened by too great labor, the heart gradually fails in its efforts. The limbs are never so healthfully warm as other parts of the body, and they soon become habitually cold, and, through lack of nutrition, do not attain their natural development. The blood, chilled away from the extremities, is thrown back upon the brain, thelungs, and other vital organs, and inflammation or congestion is the result. PHJ June 1, 1905, par. 9

Mothers who desire their boys and girls to possess the vigor of health, should dress them properly. Turn away from the fashion-plates, and study the human organism. It will require effort to break away from the chains of custom, and dress and educate the children with reference to health; but the result will amply repay the cost. When the children are properly dressed, they can go out in the open air, and enjoy health and happiness; and they will secure the physical development that will be a blessing to them to the end of life. "It is a shame to our sisters to so forget their holy character and their duty to God as to imitate the fashions of the world. There is no excuse for us except the perversity of our own hearts. We do not extend our influence by such a course. It is so inconsistent with our profession of faith that it makes us ridiculous in the eyes of worldlings. 4T 641.1

Many a soul who was convinced of the truth has been led to decide against it by the pride and love of the world displayed by our sisters. The doctrine preached seemed clear and harmonious, and the hearers felt that a heavy cross must be lifted by them in taking the truth. When these persons have seen our sisters making so much display in dress, they have said: “This people dress fully as much as we do. They cannot really believe what they profess; and, after all, they must be deceived. If they really thought that Christ was soon coming, and the case of every soul was to be decided for eternal life or death, they could not devote time and money to dress according to the existing fashions.” How little did those professedly believing sisters know of the sermon their dress was preaching! 4T 641.2

Our words, our actions, and our dress are daily, living preachers, gathering with Christ or scattering abroad. This is no trivial matter to be passed off with a jest. The subject of dress demands serious reflection and much prayer. Many unbelievers have felt that they were not doing right in permitting themselves to be slaves of fashion; but when they see some who make a high profession of godliness dressing as worldlings dress, enjoying frivolous society, they decide that there can be no wrong in such a course. 4T 641.3

“We are,” said the inspired apostle, “made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men.” All heaven is marking the daily influence which the professed followers of Christ exert upon the world. My sisters, your dress is telling either in favor of Christ and the sacred truth or in favor of the world. Which is it? Remember we must all answer to God for the influence we exert" 4T 641.4.

We would not by any means encourage carelessness in dress. 4T 641.5

“Women should clothe their limbs with regard to health and comfort. Their feet and limbs need to be clad as warmly as men’s. The length of the fashionable dress is objectionable for several reasons: – {1T 459.1}

“There is still another style of dress which is adopted by a class of so-called dress reformers. They imitate the opposite sex as nearly as possible. They wear the cap, pants, vest, coat, and boots, the last of which is the most sensible part of the costume. Those who adopt and advocate this style of dress carry the so-called dress reform to very objectionable lengths. Confusion will be the result. Some who adopt this costume may be correct in their general views upon the health question, but they would be instrumental in accomplishing vastly more good if they did not carry the matter of dress to such extremes. – {1T 459.7}

When told of their mistake, many will immediately exclaim, ‘Why, such a style of dress would be old-fashioned!’ What if it is? I wish we could be old-fashioned in many respects. If we could have the old-fashioned strength that characterized the old-fashioned women of past generations, it would be very desirable. I do not speak unadvisedly when I say that the way in which women clothe themselves, together with their indulgence of appetite, is the greatest cause of their present feeble, diseased condition. There is but one woman in a thousand who clothes her limbs as she should. Whatever may be the length of the dress, their limbs should be clothed as thoroughly as are the men’s. This may be done by wearing lined pants, gathered into a band and fastened about the ankle, or made full and tapering at the bottom; and these should come down long enough to meet the shoe. The limbs and ankles thus clothed are protected against a current of air. If the feet and limbs are kept comfortable with warm clothing, the circulation will be equalized, and the blood will remain pure and healthy because it is not chilled or hindered in its natural passage through the system.” – {1T 460.3}

Why Are We Copying The Fashions of the World?

For what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14)

"It is true today that the corsets and dresses of most women are worn too tight for the proper action of the vital organs. The lungs, heart, and liver are burdened in their work. Every article of clothing upon the person should be worn so loose that, in raising the arms, the clothing will be correspondingly lifted by the action." ~The Health Reformer, February 1, 1877

"Every Christian woman should dress neatly, simply, and healthfully, whether the world approve or disapprove. This cannot be done in adopting the present style of dress." ibid.

Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,

When the Bible says, "And be ye separate" it means to SEPERATE rom the world, and all its corrupting influences.

Said Christ, “Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” Those who are attracted to Christ and who live for the future immortal life, will not be slaves of fashion.

The standard of morality is not exalted high enough among God's people. In view of the dangers of this time, shall not we, as commandment-keeping people, put away from among us all sin, all iniquity, and all perverseness? Shall not the women professing the truth keep strict guard over themselves, lest the least encouragement be given to unwarrantable familiarity?

They might close many a door to temptation if they would observe at all times strict reserve, and propriety of deportment. Never should the mark of distinction between the followers of Jesus and the followers of Satan be obliterated.

There is a distinct line drawn by God himself between the world and the church, between commandment-keepers and commandment-breakers. These do not blend together. They are as far separated, as much different, as midday and midnight; different in their tastes, their aims, their pursuits, their characters. If we cultivate the love and fear of God, we will loathe the least approach to impurity. {ST, October 15, 1885 par. 8}

3rd Angel's Message IS the Righteousness of CHRIST my friends. The DOCTRINES OF CHRIST (2 John 1:9) are the righteousness of Christ which are the 3 Angel's messages and all are included in the 3rd Angel's Message and the 4th Angel's message joins the 3rd at just the right time as the Midnight Cry (Matthew 25) JOINED the 2nd angel's message in 1843 and 1844.

Ellen White wrote: "Several have written to me, inquiring if the message of justification by faith is the third angel's message, and I have answered, 'It is the third angel's message in verity.' " —Review and Herald, April 1, 1890.

What are the doctrines (RIGHTEOUSNESS) of Christ that are included in the 3 Angel's message??? The doctrines of CHRIST are the sheet music for the SONG OF THE 144,000. The Song no one else could learn - because they put ON CHRIST - the DOCTRINES of CHRIST are all included in the 3 Angel's messages and are the OLD ADVENTIST PROTESTANT BELIEFS! The old landmarks of Adventism, the old truths as taught by William Miller, Captain Joseph Bates, Elder James White, Elder Otis Nicoles, Elder Charles Fitch, Elder Appollos Hale, Elder Stephen N. Haskell, and SO MANY OTHERS!

We must REHEARSE ("Prophesy Again" Revelation 10:11) and point our people to the "OLD LANDMARKS" and believe on "THEIR WORD" (2SM111.2), the WORDS of the early SDA Protestant pioneers!

"MANY are going directly CONTRARY TO the LIGHT which God has given to His people, BECAUSE THEY DO NOT READ the books which contain the light and knowledge in cautions, reproofs, and warnings...” {4T 391.1}

“We are to REPEAT THE WORDS of the pioneers in our work, who knew what it cost to search for the truth as for hidden treasure, and who labored to lay the foundation of our work.
