It is a square space bounded by Reial and Smith streets. The square was urbanized in 1863 and, in 1911, it was named Plaça Artilleros del Sitio, to commemorate the centenary of the French siege. In modern times it has recovered its primitive name, of the Infants, in reference to the children (of the Infantry) who lost their lives in that war and not to the sculptures of two children that are in the fountain in the centre.
The history of the square is summed up in two emblematic buildings. One, the headquarters of De Muller wines. The other building in the square is that of the Chartreuse, where until a few years ago this "cult" liqueur was made for the people of Tarragona.

The House of De Muller was founded in 1851 by Mr. August de Muller and Ruinart de Brimont, who came from a well-known family of winegrowers of Alsatian origin. They both saw in the province of Tarragona the potential that had already been known and appreciated in the past in the days of the Greek colonies.
For four generations, the company belonged to the De Muller family and gradually became one of the pioneering companies, both in the commercial and technological fields.
A block of flats has been built on the vacant space, but the main entrance has been preserved, as a silent witness to the wine-growing power of the neighbourhood in past times.
The other building in the square is that of the Chartreuse, where until a few years ago this "cult" liqueur was made for the people of Tarragona.
In 1882 the old yarn factory La Fabril was acquired by the joint-stock company Unión Agrícola, with capital from the order of the Carthusian fathers to manufacture its liquor.
The Chartreuse operated the distilleries in Children's Square, Plaça dels Infants, from 1903 to 1989. Today, the liqueur is only produced in Voiron (France) and for Santa Tecla a special and limited edition is made with the graphic image of the festivity on the back label of the bottles.
Currently, it is the site of the Government’s Official Language School in Tarragona.
