Domestication Part 1 Vicemouth's

Vicemouth's the stalked eyed Terra Squid found all across Pangea 2 except for the harshest parts of the Interior Desert but always among the apex predators of their environment.

Well smaller then the fellow Terra Squid's Necksnare's and Crushthroat's the Vicemouth's made up for this in smart's. As one of the only Terra Squids that hunts in packs Vicemouth's were able to carved out a niche as a social pursuit predator with packs running down there prey before clamping down on there throats with there hooked mouth tentacle's.

Then something truly bizarre happened to the Vicemouth's living in the Northern Forest. Suddenly a group of fellow Stalk Eyed Terra Squid swept through the Northern Forest they were smaller and lacked mouth tentacle's and had a weak beak but were fare smarter .Like the Vicemouth's the Squibbion were social and hunted in groups but were smarter and could use weapon's to take down larger prey. The Vicemouth's of the Northern Forests suddenly had competition with the Squibbion's in the role as a social hunter in The Northern Forest. Those reached squids were copy cats out to steal the niche of the Vicemouth's.

However these newcomer's also provided an opportunity the large committee's were they butchered there kills meant the Squibbion's left a large pile of scraps around there camp.

Vicemouth's were naturally attracted to these scrap piles after all why hunt when there's a giant pile of arguably edible viscera and organs covered in flies that someone just left lying around.

However the Vicemouth's social nature breed curiosity in them as Vicemouth's were drawn to the Squibbion settlement's far more then other predator's.

When confronted by territorial Squibbion's the Vicemouth's had two choice's attack and guarantee getting killed for their aggression or back down and flee into the forest. Those who backed down but didn't flee were sometimes awarded with an occasional scape of food these Vicemouth's were the bottom of there packs those were the scraps of foods they got from Squibbion's was more worth it the fighting with there siblings in their pack.

Eventually the Squibbion's began to tolerate the low ranking Vicemouth's around there homes as long as they didn't attack them or their children there was no harm in them eating there old scraps.

Eventually the Vicemouth's would grow territorial of there food source from other predators like Necksnare's and Crushthroat's alerting the Squibbion's with loud flatulent snarling noises.

By alerting them to predators near their homes the Squibbion's branch of tolerance to the Vicemouth's had blossomed into a full grown orchid of appreciation.

Eventually the friendly Vicemouth's were encouraged to breed by the Squibbion's and generation upon generation the Vicemouth's pups would counite to grow more and more friendly towards the Squibbion.

The Squibbion's would start to reciprocate the friendliness even going out of there way to accommodate them by dig holes underneath tree stumps and allowing them to eat more then just scraps for food.

The Vicemouth's had changed over time and eventually what had started as a simple way for the Vicemouth's to get free food had inadvertently lead to them domesticating themselves.

The Vicemouth's had became the Squibbion's best friends.

The Squid Dog ( Lolligolupus Amicissimum) is the domesticated descendant of the Vicemouth they can be found all across the Northern Forest anywhere that Squibbion's live. They are smaller then there wild ancestor's about the size of a modern jackal were Vicemouth's are about the size of a spotted hyaena although they can still interbreed under rare circumstances.

By this point thousands of years of living with the Squibbion's has changed the Squid Dog's psychology. The Squibbion's had selected for friendlier and more pliable Squid Dog's this slowly changed them over time in there brain's. The need to be friendlier has lead to the loss of reactive aggression needed to survive in the wild to the point that the Squid Dog's would know struggle to survive in the wild without the Squibbion's.

This loss of aggression has lead to an increase of friendliness in Squid Dog's such as boisterousness playfulness and a desire to lick and nuzzle Squbbion's rather then immediately try to eat them.

Another example is the selective breeding for friendliness has lead to childish traits such as playfulness and frolicking have been retained to adulthood making them far more childish.

Squid Dog's have also changed physically they have lost the arched back of the Vicemouth as well as there facial tentacle's have shortened and there eye stalks have elongated and become ridged making there face's look more like the Squibbion's making them appear cuter to the Squibbion's.

Something else that make's them appear cuter to Squibbion's is as a relatively closely related species of (Oculuteuthid) or Stalk Eyed Terra Squid the Squid Dog's pups are born similarly small and Squishy to the Squibbion's young appealing to the Squibbion's parental instinct's making them more likely to help raise and care for Squid Dog's as they grow up and forming an attachment between Squibbion's and Squid Dog's.

Squid Dog's serve a vital role in hunting despite being domesticated the Squid Dog's still hade there wild ancestor's excellent sense of smell which when paired with the Squbbion's excellent vision and ability to cooperate gives them the edge over all other predator's in the Northern Forest with the Squid Dog's being able to locate and drive out prey among the understory that the Squibbion's can't see.

Squid Dog's give birth to 6-8 pups at a time they will stay with there mother for the first month of there life until there able to stand on there own at which point they are able to start exploring and socializing until the age of 1 when they are old enough to began helping in hunt's. Squid Dog's live for up to 10-12 years there death's are will be mourned by there Squibbion owners with the Squibbion's going out of there way to bury graves for there former beloved pets.
