Tufted Scamper-Squid

230 MYH-Squid Rodents are the largest group of Terra Squids by number. Despite being much easier to miss than their larger relatives nearly half of all living Terra Squids are Squid Rodents. Squid Rodents are the most morphologically primitive Terra Squids but are anything but primitive both Burrowing Jaws and Sqerboas are Squid Rodents and are both extremely different in body plan and lifestyle. The basic body plan of Squid Rodents gives them extreme flexibility in their evolution including something never before seen in Terra Squids. One branch of the Squid Rodents has become the first Terra Squid to develop skin integuments.

Scamper-Squids are a clade of arboreal Squid Rodents descendant from the Squirdel. Like their ancestor their still small nocturnal Bush-Baby-like animals that feed on mostly insects. They are nimble and run along the branches like small primates with powerful hind legs that let them leap up and down trees. Like many other arboreal animals mother Scamper-Squids carry their young on their backs.

The most obvious distinguishing feature is the presence of a fine hair-like structure lining their body. The evolution of pilage is not as big a revolution as one might expect, after all, advanced pillage has evolved twice separately  in Tertapods and Blish also sport a downy fuzz derived from their scale. Ancestrally they evolved from hooks similar to those in modern Squid Tentacles, these hooks were originally used to maintain a grip on tree branches forum the center rod of the hair surrounded by overlapping chitin scutes to form a proper hair-like structure. This hair is different from the more primitive Blish fuzz which is a hollow tube made out of Keratin-B, up close it feels like an insect's wing, and unlike Blish, it doesn't cover most of the body, most of there skin is still smooth and hippo-like found in other Terra Squid.

This small Squid with a monumental new adaptation has quickly spread to almost every forest available in the Ice Box Age. Although for now still a small nocturnal insectivore it seems almost inevitable that this incredibly unique group of Terra Squids will be destined to start yet another major Successful lineage of Terra Squids during the Ice Box Age.
