Fanged Qdeer

A unique Cephalope making changes in its diet not associated with the clade

The Fanged Qdeer at first, may look like a fairly unremarkable Cephalope. Super Star males have elaborate horns, but these mottled blue antlers are shabby compared to open habitat species like the Squaribo. The only unique feature that would set it apart from its Squibbion area ancestor is the presence of two fang-like projections on the upper jaw which like the Saber Squid is a direct outgrowth of the beak itself.

However, it is not the Qdeer’s appearance that makes it unique it’s the behavior of this Cephalope that makes it unique.

The Qdeer is one of the only Cephalopes to partake in active carnivory.

All Cephalopes will occasionally supplement their diet with meat, after all, Horned Terra Squid evolved from a carnivorous ancestor like all modern Cephalopods before becoming specialized with their last common ancestor also being omnivorous like their closet living relatives the Squid Rodents.

Well most still take part in occasional meat eating the Qdeer will actively seek out sources of protein. Well, it doesn’t hunt large game it frequently indulges in insect larvae and grubs that are plentiful in the fallen logs of the forest habitat they prefer. They will also occasionally hunt small Squid Rodents or Blish although they are rather poorly built to hunt approaching small prey items and kicking them until death and leaving a large portion of the carcass uneaten as they can’t graze of the meat off the harder muscles and bones prefuring the softer fats and organs of the prey.

Well, not a particularly spectacular animal compared to some of its relatives The Fanged Qdeer does show new pathways the Cephalopes are taking in the Icebox Age.
