Fire is something that can cause severe damage. Be it a house or an automobile. Sometimes, vehicles can be lit-up, but by the time one realizes it, it's often too late to control it. Automobiles are very quick at catching fire, as a car is a Combination of many components and its complete package of all those components is very capable of catching fire.
The most common mistake which causes the disaster is fueling a car the wrong way. This can be hazardous to your health as just a few innocent mistakes can cause a dangerous flash fire sparked by static electricity.
About 100 static-sparked fires occur at gas stations each year. The fires most often result from easily avoidable mistakes committed by a driver while fueling.
Static fires received a lot of attention about a decade ago after a couple of petrol pump blazes in different cities in Pakistan. CCTV footage from the petrol pump fire incidents eventually wound up on the Internet, creating a sensation.
Last November, the same incident happened in Karachi. A fire broke out in a tanker parked at a petrol pump in front of Saddar Parking Plaza.
A fire broke out in a tanker parked at a petrol pump in Saddar.
The fire started during the transfer of fuel, which was put out by the firefighters after a fierce struggle. The tanker contained 16,000 liters of petrol.
There was also a risk of exploding the tanker as well as the underground fuel tank at the petrol pump during the fire. One snorkel and eleven fire brigade vehicles took part in the operation. At around 11 a.m. on Saturday, an oil tanker reached the petrol pump in front of the Parking Plaza in Saddar to deliver petrol. The petrol pump crew was connecting the tanker's pipe to the fuel tank when a fire broke out, which soon intensified.
Panic and fear spread in the area. The staff at the fuel station immediately used fire extinguishers to extinguish the fire and alerted the fire brigade. As soon as the information was received, four vehicles were dispatched to the spot, and the number of vehicles kept increasing.
The firefighters rushed to the spot and risked their lives to put out the blaze by standing in front of the tanker.
During this time, the fuel was added to the running water several times, and the fire spread along the water to the road. At one point, the fire spread rapidly under the fire brigade vehicles, which was immediately extinguished.
Firefighters battled the blaze for about an hour and a half, after which the cooling process began. The firefighters kept the fire under control despite severe difficulties and prevented it from spreading further. They said the fire could have caused irreparable damage if it had spread to other parts of the gas station or an underground tank. There was fuel in the underground tank, which has the capacity to store 30,000 liters of fuel. The fire brigade vehicles arrived on time and averted a major disaster.
The fire partially damaged the petrol pump. Earlier, as soon as the fire was reported, police and traffic police personnel rushed to the spot and closed the roads around the gas station for all traffic.
The bravest driver from Quetta speeds away from a burning oil tanker to save lives.
Ahmed Fasial who drove burning truck on roads of Quetta to save live.
On June 8, 2022, Quetta's bravest Ahmed Fasial demonstrated that not all heroes wear caps by driving a burning truck on the provincial capital's Qambrani road to save lives in a populated area.
It seems like a scene from a movie when Muhammad Faisal drove off his vehicle when it caught fire at a petrol pump located on the aforesaid road.
"I thought now the oil tanker would explode and I would die."
As the video of him driving through fire went viral on social media, Faisal said.
Recalling the horrifying moments, he said, "When I saw the fire, I rushed to drive away despite the roaring flames."
"My primary concern was to save human lives," the determined tanker driver said, who chose to put his life at great risk by driving the burning vehicle for around two kilometers.
Admitting that it was nonetheless a horrifying moment, the brave driver said: "I thought I would die, but I was concerned about the population."
He further explained that every time he would decide to stop, he would see some more people nearby and it would compel him to continue moving. "I was mentally prepared for my death," Faisal said.
What made the incident scarier and more threatening for the driver was that it contained more than 10,000 litres of petrol. Faisal's efforts finally saved lives as scores rushed towards the vehicle once it was stopped and managed to extinguish the flames.
Residents of the area asked the provincial government if they should announce a special prize for this brave driver who saved precious human lives.
In 2017, a similar incident happened in Bhawalpur, where an oil tanker crashed on a road and more than 153 people, many of whom had rushed to collect the leaking fuel, were killed when it exploded.
Burnt out cars and motorcycles are seen at the scene of an oil tanker explosion in Bahawalpur.
On the morning of Sunday June 25, 2017, a petrol tanker carrying 40,000 litres of fuel overturned after trying to make a sharp turn while travelling from Karachi to Lahore on the main highway.
When the tanker turned over, the residents of the nearby village of Ramzanpur Joya rushed to the site with buckets and other containers, and a large number of people on motorcycles also came and started collecting the spilled fuel. As the disaster occurred, the police raced to the scene and tried to keep people away from the tanker, but they were ignored as residents continued filling their containers with fuel. It's believed that a spark from the many cars and motorcycles that raced to the scene ignited the fuel.
After about 10 minutes, the tanker exploded in a huge fireball and enveloped the people collecting petrol. It was not clear how the fire started.
Dozens of cars and motorcycles were burned in the blaze. The leftover wreckage of the motorcycles and cars could be seen scattered on the highway, along with kitchen utensils, pots, water coolers, jerrycans, and buckets that victims had brought to collect the petrol.
The fire brigade arrived at the scene of the incident shortly after the blaze started and rescue operations were initiated. Firefighters fought the flames for over two hours before extinguishing the fire.
The injured were transferred to District Headquarters Hospital and Bahawal Victoria Hospital. All bodies were removed from the site of the incident, and only the damaged vehicles remained.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa ordered the army to assist the civil administration in the rescue efforts. Army helicopters were used to transport 51 injured people from Bahawalpur to Nishtar Hospital in Multan.
The things that prevent your car from catching fire are:
Automobiles are highly durable, but they are not damage-proof. Extreme heat can expose them to extensive harm and make them vulnerable to fire accidents. The risk of fire ignition increases manifold in the summer season because of the lower fuel moisture and increased hotness. You can follow these fire prevention tips in hot weather to keep the car safe:
The Most Common Causes of Fire...!
In our list today, we will take a look at a few reasons that can cause your beloved vehicle to go up in flames. Some of the most important reasons are as follows:
smoking inside the car.
Fuel leaks
CNG usage
Electrical wiring
Accidents and crashes
Lack of maintenance
1: Smoking inside the car: Although cigarette lighter is available in most of the cars. But if it's not working or somehow not available so you lit a matchstick and by mistake, if you throw that matchstick on seat or floor or cigarette butt inside your car, the upholstery of your car has potential to catch fire. So try to smoke outside your car.
2: Fuel leaks: We all know very well that fuel is highly flammable. Leakage in fuel circuit of your car can cause severe damage rather it can blow your vehicle up. Always keep an eye on your car's condition and check for any leakages, if leakage is found never risk your life and don't drive at all until the problem is rectified.
3: CNG Usage: Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is also used instead of petrol in vehicles. But it's one of the major sources of fire. Many incidents have taken place in Pakistan in which CNG cylinders exploded, and fatalities took place. CNG cylinders are like you carrying a bomb in your car 24/7.
4: Electrical Wiring: This is a common problem or rather a culprit in most of the fire accidents. The vehicle is using current from the battery and then re-generating electricity with the help of generator which then charges that battery. So, there are many wires involved in this circuit. One worn out wire or a naked wire that is live can cause the fire due to short circuiting that could turn out to be a big disaster. Keep wires well insulated and get them checked to avoid a fire accident.
5: Accidents & Crashes: Accident is one very highly dangerous reason for a car for catching fire. If fuel tank gets punctured during accident that can catch fire due to metal friction and heat and when tires are burst air in it boosts that combustion process. Secondly hot fluids like Engine oil and Radiator coolant when they are leaked, they are hot enough to catch fire.
6: Lack of Maintenance: Lack of maintenance is not going to directly cause your car to catch fire, but your car can be a lot more dangerous and this carelessness can indirectly lead to a fire. For example: damaged wiring at spark plugs can lead to a spark which can ignite flammable fluids such as oil or gasoline or plastic trims in Engine Bay like Air Inlet manifold or Insulation on A/C piping etc. Keeping up with repairs and performing regular maintenance can help you avoid conditions that can lead to a vehicular fire.
Conclusion
Be ready for danger because incidents can happen at anytime, anywhere, and in the event of these kinds of situations, be calm. And take proactive measures to decrease the risk of fire hazards. Review the basic safety tips for the automobile and load it with emergency supplies such as a fire extinguisher.
