Karam Ali Khan Talpur Road, located in the midst of Saddar’s busiest commercial zones, has now become an open space piazza for people. On the occasion of world environment day, Mr. Murtaza Wahab inaugurated the Road which was under the process of revival and beautification for 6 months. The provincial government had announced a secondary scheme for the beautification and restoration of the road. With the support of the Bohra Community, Construction and revival of the road took place. It is a beautiful open space along with an urban forest & amphitheater adjacent to the majestic structure of Empress Market in Saddar.
Coconut trees between the iron sheds and the addition of large pots of flowering plants have added to the beauty of Saddar and around the residential area. Residents around the area are delighted. “It was a much-needed project, street hawkers and fruit seller’s mess was all over,” said Sakina, resident of Halai building.
On the other hand, there are 150 shops on the sides of Talpur Road, and the revival of the road has severely affected all these businesses. “Before its construction, the road had bus stops of 20 to 22 routes which implied access to thousands of shoppers daily from which the markets on both sides used to make a lot of business. Closing this road to traffic has cost shopkeepers hundreds of millions in lost revenue, “Pan Shop owner” said.
“Right in front of this road is the century-old Empress Market which is of immense significance for Saddar and gives the commercial area its historical status. The construction of large iron sheds on this road has affected the beauty of Empress Market, the ring seller said, lamenting that Empress Market used to be seen from afar while passing through Lucky Star Road, but now the commercial center cannot be seen even up close,”
This project seems favorable for residents but not for shopkeepers, however, this construction has uplifted the road and is serving as a clear pathway for the pedestrians.
