Learn: We begin with a story from the Book of Genesis, the first book of the Bible. It is the story of the first patriarch, Abraham, answering God's call.

Catholic Youth Bible (CYB): Using your "Introduction to Your Catholic Youth Bible" yellow sheet, take a look at the PENTATEUCH which begins with Genesis. We start with Abraham and Sarah. As we proceed, we'll focus on the stories which point to the coming of Jesus.
How can a 6th Grader live their faith? The theme of this story is trust. Abraham and Sarah trusted in God. Think about what trust means. How can you can show trust in God? What is a way you can show you are trustworthy to others?
Prayer Video: Pray The Hail Mary. Mary trusted in God.
Action: Choose an activity from the September Family Page to Experience God's Goodness.

Learn: We continue with Abraham and Sarah and their son Isaac, the second patriarch. This story is read annually at the Easter Vigil Mass and tells of the great sacrifice God asked of Abraham. We read it to remind us of the great sacrifice Jesus made for us.

Catholic Youth Bible (CYB): Open your CYB to page 20 and read the "Quick Summary" of the Book of Genesis. Each story in Chapters 1-4 is from the Book of Genesis and teaches us about one of the four Patriarchs. Also on page 20 is a section called "How is This Relevant to My Life Today?" Take a look.
How can a 6th Grader live their faith? The message of this Bible story is sacrifice. A sacrifice is an act of unselfish giving. What kind of sacrifice can a 6th Grader make? (Less time on your phone? Put someone else first?) Think of something you can commit to doing.

Learn: We continue with the descendants of Abraham. Abraham and Sarah had a son, Isaac. Isaac married Rebecca and they had twins, Jacob and Esau.
Video: Watch God's story: Jacob and Esau to learn how Jacob received the special blessing or birthright from his father Isaac, giving him the right to be the third patriarch.
Activity: Print and do the Answering God's Call puzzle to learn how we say "Yes" to God. Answers here.

How can a 6th Grader live their faith? We learned of a special type of commitment, called a covenant. A covenant is a sacred agreement or relationship. Take time to think about the covenants you keep everyday when you are a loyal friend, respect your parents, live honestly, and keep your promises.

Learn: We follow Jacob's descendants. Jacob had 12 sons, which became the 12 Tribes of Israel. We follow Jacob's 11th and favorite son, Joseph, the fourth patriarch.

Catholic Youth Bible (CYB): We have read our final story in the Book of Genesis. In our next Unit we will read about Moses in the Book of Exodus, the second book of the PENTATEUCH.
How can a 6th Grader live their faith? Joseph was loyal and faithful to God. He did not seek revenge against his brothers. He was hurt but he focused on God. He put God above everything else. How can you follow Joseph's example and put God first in your life?
