An iteration of the original AK rifle series, the AK-74 featured a new caliber and much lighter weight than its predecessor. Introduced in 2060, the AK-127 resembles a light machine gun in many ways, especially with how it packs an incredible amount of ammunition. Two drums with up to 100 rounds each enable the AK-127 to be incredibly effective at suppressive fire although when fully loaded the weapon is heavy and unwieldy. Initially developed as both a successor and an addition to the AK-97/98 family, the prototypes and a copy of the complete construction data were stolen by a Black Star shadowrunner team. Hours later, the blueprints were made widely available on the Matrix and the AK-127 program was unceremoniously shuddered - but with the plans on the Matrix, this gun has never gone out of style.

But the 73’s designers also made several… curious design choices. First is the proprietary helical magazine that attaches below the buttstock, which has been known to not seat properly in the weapon, causing the powered feed system not to engage.
