Phonics Daily Review
I can use phonemes to help me read and write words.
Watch the Phonics Daily Review video - ai review 1
Develop your reading and writing skills by joining in with today's Phonics Daily Review. The reviews are different every day.
You will need a whiteboard, marker and rubber (or paper and pencil) to complete this activity.
Challenge
If you want to make it harder, turn down your speakers for the phonemes and blending sections. You can also click on the settings cog and change the play back speed to 1.25 or higher.
Phonics
I can identify phonemes in words.
Today we are learning the 'th' phoneme.
Watch the 'th' video on Seesaw and learn all about the 'rudest' phoneme in the English language. Just don't go around sticking your tongue out all day!
Haha!
Reading
I can use letters and sounds to decode words.
It's story time!
Focus Book: The Flash [2]
Focus phonemes: sh and th
We are going to be reading this book for the next three reading lessons (today, Thurs & Fri). You will be asked to upload a video of your reading to Seesaw on Friday.
1. Read the Practise Page on page 3 –read aloud each sound at the top of the page and read the high frequency words at the bottom.
2. Read The Flash [2] book twice. Make sure you sound out any tricky words carefully.
3. Read the fluency chart at the end of the book.
Is this book too hard or too easy?
You can:
Choose a different book from the SPELD website.
Read a book from your PM eCollection.
Read a book of your own choice.
Remember to focus on reading fluency by reading the same book for the next three reading lessons. (If you choose to read a different book, you will be asked to upload a video of you reading your 'own choice' book on Friday instead).
Writing
I can write a sentence about my personal experience.
Today your writing activity is a personal recount about something you did in the holidays.
Write your recount in the first person because it happened to you!
Use the past tense because it has already happened.
Recounts are written in the order in which they happened.
Using descriptive words will make it seem like your reader is there with you.
You can begin your writing with...
“In the holidays I …"
Include a picture about your writing.
Challenge
Can you write 2-4 sentences by using these sentence starters to order your recount.
First
Then
Next
I felt
Maths
I can subtract using concrete materials.
Time to put your Maths brain on.
Use 2 tens frames and some counters (or blocks) to practise your subtraction skills.
Put on 20 counters. One counter in each box.
Roll your die and take the counters away.
Say what you did out aloud...20 take away 4 makes 16.
Keep going until you get to 0.
You might like to record your number sentences in your workbook or on a whiteboard.
Challenge
Write some numbers in order in your workbook or on your whiteboard. E.g. Start at 20 and go back to 0. Then try a different number. You could try this activity sheet too.
PD/H/PE
Name That Emotion
Find a partner and play the game 'Name That Emotion'.
In this game, you must try to figure out what emotion your partner is acting.
Optional Activity:
Draw a picture showing an emotion or feeling.
What colours would you choose and what would be happening in the picture?
My emotion is excitement.
It is colourful and fun. Excitement reminds me of a fun place or going on holidays.
Excitement!
