Morning Fitness

It's time to wake up and get ready to learn.

Let's have a calm start to the day by focusing on our breathing.

Phonics Daily Review

I can use phonemes to help me read and write words.

Watch the Phonics Daily Review video - 'sh' lesson 1

Develop your reading and writing skills by joining in with today's Phonics Daily Review.

You will need a whiteboard, marker and rubber (or paper and pencil) to complete this activity.

Challenge

If you want to make it harder, turn down your speakers for the phonemes and blending sections.

Phonics

I can recognise and write the 'sh' sound.

Explicit mini lesson for this activity has been posted on Seesaw.

Watch the 'sh' video on Seesaw.

Then think of some other words that have ‘sh’ at the beginning.

Have a go at writing them on your whiteboard.

Reading

I can fluently read texts using my knowledge of letters and sounds to decode words.

Rereading is important!

Focus Book: The Flash [1]

Focus phoneme: sh

We are going to be reading The Flash [1] book from the SPELD website for the next three days. Rereading books is very important as it helps us improve our fluency and expression.

You will be asked to upload a video of you reading The Flash [1] to Seesaw on Thursday.

Instructions:

1. Read the Practise Page on page 3 –read aloud each sound at the top of the page before reading the high frequency words at the bottom.

2. Read The Flash [1] book twice. Make sure you sound out any tricky words carefully.

3. Read the fluency chart at the end of the book.

Is this book too hard or too easy?

You can:

Remember to focus on reading fluency by reading the same book for the next three days. (If you choose to read a different book, you will be asked to upload a video of you reading your 'own choice' book on Thursday instead).

Maths

I can add collections of objects using the counting on strategy.

Time to put your Maths brain on.

Warm up:

Count forwards from 4 until you reach 15.

Count forwards from 16 until you reach 27.

Count forwards from 45 until you reach 63.

Activity

Materials needed for the following activity:

2 sets of Number cards 1-9 (a deck of cards works well with the 10s and royal cards removed. Ace represents 1)

How to play

  1. Make 2 equal piles of cards.

  2. Turn one card from each pile over.

  3. Rearrange the two cards so that the highest number is first.

  4. Say the highest number and then turn this card over. Add the second card to the first card without looking at the first card again.

E.g. 4 and 8, gets swapped to 8 and 4.

Say 8 aloud and turn the card over.

Now count on 4 beginning at 8.

Say 8...... 9, 10, 11, 12.

  1. Do this 6 times.

  2. Record your results like this:

8 and 4 makes 12.

Want to make it Easier?

Keep both cards visible. Encourage counting on rather than starting from one but allow the student to touch the cards and count the amount on each card.

Want to make it Harder?

Have 3 equal piles of cards. The first pile takes the place value of a ten, and the second card takes the place value of a one.

For example, if you turn over a 9, 3 and 4 the addition sum is 93 and 4 makes 97.

PD/H/PE

I can identify and express different emotions.

Recognising Emotions

Emotions are feelings.

You feel them because of what you see, hear, remember, and do. So, whether you're sad and blue or happy and excited, you can share your feelings with other people by identifying them, showing and talking about them.

This activity has been posted on Seesaw.

Click on the link on Seesaw and watch the Inside Out read aloud.

Complete the student template provided.

Take pictures of yourself showing different feelings.

Challenge:

In your workbook choose three different feelings and write a sentence about when you feel that way.

Science

What is it made of?

Explicit mini lesson for this activity has been posted on Seesaw.

We have been exploring different materials and their properties. Today we are going to do an experiment. We are going to investigate materials that are waterproof.

You will need:

  • a printed copy of the waterproof predictions worksheet or you can complete it directly on Seesaw.

  • a piece of paper towel

  • a tissue

  • a small piece of foil

  • a small piece of cling wrap.

Challenge:

Record the results of your experiment. You might even like to write a sentence explaining what happened.

Well done for finishing another great day of learning!

Remember to say thank you to anyone who helped you.

Now is a great time to go outside and be active!
