Spectacles

A long long time ago

God came to the Earth below

To live amongst people for a few days

So that He could witness the human ways

Men and women soon complained to Him

That their vision was dim

Some could not see far

They could hardly relish the twinkling star

Some could not recognise objects near

And to others with distortion things would appear

Miserable for their own malady

They all pleaded for a remedy

God took pity at their plight

And promised to help improve their sight

Back to His home when God went

To Earth His optician He immediately sent

The optician came with millions of glasses

Enough and more to satisfy the masses

From a wide variety people were asked to choose

Some were plain and others with colours did amuse

To pick spectacles of choice everyone was free

For coloured pairs there was a spree

For plain glasses the optician failed to persuade

As everyone liked to pick a different shade

Everyone profusely thanked God

For a gift that was much awed

Everyone now saw the world in a different hue

For the colours available were more than a few

Everyone was happy with his chosen pair

About others’ vision no one did care

Today as opinions these spectacles are known

Everyone feels that to him alone reality has been shown

Everyone feels that his outlook is true

Nobody is ready to accept other’s view

Everyone feels that his view is the best

And with truth he alone has been blessed
