Man and Law

When on the planet earth

Man for the first time took his birth

He was utterly inadequate and weak

But in one respect he was unique

Like other animals he could not run fast

In swimming competition he was amongst the last

Like birds he could not fly

Far could not see his eye

In climbing trees he was slower than most

About sense of smell too he could not boast

His teeth were not so sharp

Upon his claws he could hardly harp

Fire and tools were yet to be discovered

All the secrets of science were not yet uncovered

In this violent milieu how could he survive

How then could he remain alive

Because larger than others his group was sized

And certainly better organised

This was achieved with the sovereign’s command

Obedience of the whole group which could demand

This command of the sovereign man

Is nothing but the law of the human clan

With this superior law man could not only survive

But in this hostile environment he could also thrive

Many are the ways to generate

And for this command to emanate

One end of the spectrum is autocracy

And on the other lies democracy
