Anomaly Description
SCP-009, or “Red Ice”, is an anomalous red crystal of unknown origin, similar in appearance to ice. SCP-009 infects all living entities that come into contact with it by ‘freezing’ them and forming deeply saturated red crystals on their skin. Such living entities contacting SCP-009 are now classified as SCP-009-1. Subjects that come into direct contact with either SCP-009 or SCP-009-1 will immediately collapse and undergo biological changes. Such changes consist of:
Losing all body hair and distinguishing features;
Manifesting a ‘zombie’-like expression;
Reddening clothing, accessories, and skin;
The crystals forming on SCP-009-1’s skin appear to be greatly luminant. It’s worth noting that motoric functions appear normal, however, despite the instances holding visibly suspecting weight from the crystals.
Special Containment Procedures
The main instance, SCP-009, is shielded by a tall circular T.W.S. (temporary wall system), accessible only through a mantrap door system.
The enclosure created by the T.W.S offers a large area and can be viewed from both the catwalks and the secure observation area.
While the observation area does not contain much furniture, the inner chamber is equipped with various field laboratories and work spaces, improvised offices, and storage.
Special Research Procedures
Researchers can test on SCP-009 with the approval of Biohazard Research Division Sub-Command, Senior Analyst+.
Cross-testing requires permission from an Analyst Supervisor+ from the Biohazard Research Division.
Unethical testing requires permission from the Chief Analyst from the Biohazard Research Division.
