Type: Team Building
Logistics Required: Equipment to make a grid of boxes (can be 6x6 or 5x5 etc. up to the instructor).
Examples of equipment include disc cones, rubber rings etc. You can also mark out the grid with duct/masking tape.
Objective: To get every member of the Watch across a minefield.
Instructions:
Before activity commences, instructor is to set-up the grid of minimal 6 by 6 boxes.
Instructor is to draw out a safe passage as an answer sheet for their own reference. Please refer to below diagram for an example.
Rules:
Participants will have 3 minutes to discuss and will have to remain silent throughout the attempt.
Once ready, the participants will one at a time navigate across the minefield by trial and error (left, right, forward, backward, or diagonals). Each time a wrong move is made, the instructor will make a sound to indicate a mistake.
The participant who made a mistake will move to the back of the line for the next participant to attempt.
After one participant successfully gets across the minefield, the next participant will follow the same sequence without any errors.
Any errors made will result in restarting from the first person who got across.
Those who have successfully completed the attempt is NOT allowed to help with the subsequent attempts.
Variations:
Competition between 2 teams
After one successful attempt, blindfold the remainder of the participants. The participant who made a successful attempt to verbally guide the blindfolded participant. After the second person gets across, he/she can be the new guide.
Do not allow the participants to see the mine field (park the participants at a location where they cannot see the activity area). One by one they will come up to attempt. Any error made will result in them returning to the rest of the participants to share what he/she has done before the next participant goes to attempt.
Suggestions:
Prepare beforehand a few variations of safe passages so that you can play the game in varying levels of difficulties using the variations above.
