A debriefing framework used by Hon Peow for my 21days CCC and I thought to give it a shot with my group this week.
Usage of Scrabble tiles to form words symbolising their own Outward Bound journey. Turned out to be a rather heartening and enlightening moment for myself as well.
MOI:
1. The words “Outward Bound” were formed and they start forming words by using the given letters (usual Scrabble game)
2. After 20mins, each person was to choose a word that spoke volume to them and share about it.
3. Instructor just listen and facilitate 🤗
Personal observations:
1. Of all the words they could have formed, they chose to use the names of everyone in the group and seemingly meaningless words like “Pocari”, “Three”.
2. They made very deliberate effort to make sure everyone’s names were included. Adjusted some words to fit in names or else made abbreviations to just suit their purpose.
3. Top 3 words chosen by the group:
- “Trek” : symbolised the trying moments that strengthened them as individuals and as a team.
- “Pocari” : symbolic of the silly moments/jokes they shared eg mixing Milo with Pocari powder n drinking it. *no one had diarrhoea btw*
- “Three”: symbolic of how 1 of the barrels in their raft came apart midway in the quarry and how they could just laugh and have fun despite having an incomplete structure.
Personal takeaways:
1. Even the brightest of minds wants to have FUN and be in touch with the kid in them. Never mind that it’s the simplest of stuff like Pocari or Milo powder, as long as it can bring out the fun in them, it’s sthg of value to them.
2. It’s always the PEOPLE that matters. Their efforts to connect all of our names was the highlight of the final debrief and this is exactly why they are in this programme. Without much indoctrination from our part, they managed to bring this very impt aspect out.
Conclusion:
The pax taught and reminded me of the value of every individual and it’s always the PEOPLE who will make or break an experience.
Have a good course this coming week and stay connected!
