Who: C2B (Open Deck kayak, Sea Ex return from Jelutong to C2)
Prep work: Gunny sacks, took from PIAH store in C1, weighing scale (self brought), twine
To make up for the shortened sea expedition route due to the heat stress measures, we introduced Environmental Stewardship to our pax during the Sea Ex Mass Brief on Wed evening, and that their expedition back would be about how much trash they help us clear. We touched a little on their Values In Action which they took part in back in school, as well as on Ubin and Johor Straits being a funnel for the rubbish coming from South China Sea.
On Sea Ex day, right before their expedition, we touched on the decomposition timeline using pictures and got them to rearrange the cards, so as to inspire their interest in the effects of the marine debris. We provided the gunny sacks for every few kayaks and they began the trash pick up right after launching from the Jelutong Beach. Along the way, we helped to recce for larger trash build up areas.
At the end of the expedition, we added to the pool of trash picked up by doing a simple beach clean up. Weighed the trash collected and submitted to the global database app Clean Swell. Across 2 watches of 27 participants, we picked up 35 kg worth of trash!
