Would like to share a closing I did together with Dylan Ang Wee Kiong!
Colour MASS!
The actual process actually spans a few days, involving different stages of Colour being added to the canvas with the last Colour BLACK. You can find out more from Tan Qi Wei with what he did during his 21day course.
What we did differently and some considerations for the session:
It was a 2-watch triyak mobile that did many things together
Step 1> With markers provided, we got them to draw an individual drawing of themselves before, during and after the course. This ensures that everyone would feel welcome to draw something without feeling they are 'destroying' the artwork because of their lack of art skills.
Step 2> Told them to go around and add/modify things to each other's drawings, of course nothing offensive or cancellations.
Step 3> Took away markers, with crayons and chalk, start draw the activities, memories and places, start to link it which each other and come up with a flow or bigger picture
Step 4> Took away crayons, introduced the PAINT! They must now cover every inch of the paper with paint. We left them on their own to decide how they would want to paint it, they had fun in the process by playing and painting each other as well.
In the end, we asked them what do they feel about the final product and process of it. They could relate to how it was like for them during the course, individuals coming together and sharing a colourful experience.
We asked what do they feel about the drawings they made that can no longer/vaguely be seen. Some were disappointed or sad that it couldn't be seen now.
Closed the session with a quote by Maya Angelou - "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."
Likening to how they will not remember many things about this course, they will always remember how they felt about it and the valuable lessons it taught them, especially in serving one another (between the 2 watches) for the week.
The last task was to cut the canvas up for everyone to bring a piece home.
