It all started with me knowing I am running my first cutter solo. First thing that came to my mind was pirates of the Caribbean. Honestly, I did not think how the framing will roll out as, I didn’t had a concrete flow before the course itself. But here's how the framing turned out:
<Day 1>
Once I was done with the moodset for their sailing Expedition. I gather my watch at expedition court. I was in my pirate hat, told them to address me as captain of Vijaya. I was clear that going to bring out competent sailors out, or else I will throw them out in sea. They started off at the level of recruits. Their aim to get promoted, eventually get to the level of captain. Thus on first day , picking skills like knowing cutter parts and knots is the first step to getting promoted.
<Day 2>
In the cutter - to be a captain, they need to know how to rig up the sails and move the boat. Same time, because we are pirates , there is possibilities we might get attack by other sea craft. Thus doing their role fast and properly, will earn them weapons like guns and water bombs. Once cutter was cast off, quickly taught them how to manoeuvre and heave to. Their objective was to get close to any sea craft *obs only* out there and attack before we could anchor off for the day. The watch manage to get close to Arfan who was on SP, and sprayed him.
<Day 3-4 >
Sea X to sembawang and back to C1- to be a captain, you must be good at navigating your way to find treasures. Hence I got the opportunity to share some knowledge on navigation. At the sametime, need to take care of the sea so they had to pick up rubbish along their way back to C1. Each rubbish earns them a point which is needed to redeem a map for their commitment activity.
<Day 5>
Commitment activity - gave them a treasure map, with 2 checkpoints, their goal was to retrieve 2 pirates hat and present it to the most outstanding 2 crew who deserves to be the captain. The hats were located in C1 tunnel. Finally Graduation ceremony on Indiana.
It’s my first time trying out, definitely not perfect but a lot of fun. so do feel free to comment and share on how it can be further improved!
I will expand on it and try it out again during my 21days. Not forgetting, huge thanks to Salome and Shane for their sharing last week. Their sharing was definitely the inspiration for mine together with pirates of Caribbean 😉

If u wanna try for 21d, it can be a more extensive and elaborated. Perhaps you can frame it super positively. Pirates hav a negative sterotype to it. Stealing, killing, attacking.
So instead of attacking another obs ship, they must giv their possession to the ship. Maybe snacks or offer water. The clear the rubbish is a great idea.
Reason i have in mind
1. The judgement we make on certain impression we had. Link to the impression they had on their watchmates and course. How true were their judgement? Was it necessary to judge?
2. Let them fail. Mercilessly. Haha. Law of salem. In a cutter, they hav no time to wallow in self pity. They hav to pick themselves up and sail. Resilience
3. OB mission. Who says pirates cant help others discover n develop their potential to care of themselves, others and the world around them? We never too small to make a difference.
Expand on it widely and in depth!
A lot of potential OB moment to spot in the cutter. Once familiar with the OB philosophy, next level of OB moment is to deliberately create that moment.
