Norman M. Crute
Norman Matthews Crute was born in 1921. He attended North Vancouver High School, where he was active in sports and the boys' Hi-Y Club. When he graduated in 1938, he was awarded the MacLeod Memorial Medal as the all-round student of the year.
After graduation, he articled with the chartered accounting firm of Frederick, Field and Co. In 1941, he won the gold medal for the highest marks in Canada in the intermediate CA exams. During World War II, he joined the RCAF and became a Flying Officer. In 1947, he won the gold medal for the highest marks in BC in the final CA exams. He was made an FCA by the BC Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1965 and became a senior partner with the firm of Campbell, Sharp, Nash and Field (now Doane, Raymond and Pannell). In 1981 he retired because of ill health (multiple sclerosis) and died in 1983.
This scholarship in his name was founded by his sister Margaret McLeod in 1983 and further funding was provided by his widow, Mrs. Jessie Crute.
