Arthur G. Creelman

Arthur Graham Creelman was born May 12 1910 in North Vancouver, where he attended Ridgeway Elementary School and North Vancouver High School, at that time the only high school in North Vancouver. He graduated from UBC in physics and mathematics in 1931 and in 1932 started teaching in Penticton. Two years later he returned to North Vancouver High School as a science teacher specializing in physics and remained there until his retirement in 1975.

He is thus perhaps the teacher best remembered by North Vancouver High School's thousands of graduates, not only for his length of service but also for his exceptionally good teaching and for his work in science curriculum revision. On his retirement he won the Fergusson Award offered annually by the BC Teachers' Federation "in recognition of his outstanding achievement in the field of education." That same year the North Vancouver High School Students' Council established the Art Creelman Scholarship to help future students further their education as he had helped students through his teaching.

After his retirement, Mr. Creelman continued to work for the Faculty of Education at UBC and for the BC Ministry of Education, writing new curricula and correspondence courses in physics. He died April 24 2000.
