Evelyn Southwell

Evelyn Elizabeth Southwell (nee Cliff) was born in 1909 in the United States. She spent her early years in Kelowna, BC, but attended elementary and secondary school in Vancouver. She graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.

In North Vancouver, she taught at Argyle, Sutherland and North Vancouver High School. A devoted mother and a woman of many interests outside teaching, she is perhaps best remembered as a wise and warm-hearted counsellor for girls. She died tragically in 1987 in a fire at her home. The Eve Southwell Memorial Bursary was established by her loving husband and family, her many friends, and her former students and colleagues.
