Margaret Nichol

Margaret (Peggy) Nichol was born in 1905 and died in 1970. She graduated from North Vancouver High School in 1921 and started teaching one year later after completing her Normal School training. In 1937, she obtained her BA from the University of British Columbia. Peggy taught in elementary and junior high schools before joining the staff of North Vancouver High School, where she taught English and Social Studies for over 20 years. At the school she sponsored the girls' hockey teams and girls' Hi-Y Clubs. Peggy was also active in the Lions Gate Hospital Auxiliary, St. Andrew's United Church, and the University Women's Club. She retired in 1969.

Acting on Peggy's expressed wish, her sister Helen McGillivray founded the Margaret Jean Nichol Memorial Scholarship, which was first awarded in 1971.
