Ethically & Effectively Using Digital Tools
GOALS
Develop your self-directed learner skills in the context of your writing and writing process.
Lay the groundwork for future success in summative assessments.
Identify the best digital tool for your purpose.
Learn how to use digital tools in an effective and ethical manner.
Focus on the Process
Whether reading and responding, or crafting and drafting, our focus in on the process. In our digital world, there's a premium on authenticity and originality.
How do you let others know that your ideas and work product are uniquely your own? You document your process- from the works that influenced your thinking and your initial timestamped reactions to the digital tools you used throughout your process and then through each draft and timestamped iteration - all the way through to your final product.
Be Mindful of the AI Continuum
There will be times when we use AI to help us with learning tasks; however, assume that every learning task we do should be entirely your own authentic and original work - created without consulting AI unless the directions for the task specifically state that AI is permitted.
KEEP IN MIND
To avoid plagiarizing, you must always identify/cite all outside sources you used when drafting and crafting your work. This includes AI.

Digital Tools for Responding to Reading with Depth and Originality
This AI Chatbot, created with School AI, will help you create a "Book-Head-Heart Reader's Response" (see sample on the right). As you chat, you will explore your own thinking about your reading. It's just another way to connect to your own ideas and thinking critically and deeply.
When you use this School AI chatbot for one of your reader's responses, be sure to:
chat for at least 5 minutes
copy/paste the URL for your chat to your reader's response.

Many thanks to fellow Lancers, Mrs. Downing and Mrs. Brayall, who collaborated and created a chatbot template in School AI - new digital tool for teachers. They shared their template with me and showed me how to "remix" it to fit our needs. Go Lancers!
