Luke 9:37-45
The Healing of a Boy With an Evil Spirit
37The next day, when they came down from the mountain, a large crowd met him. 38A man in the crowd called out, "Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for he is my only child. 39A spirit seizes him and he suddenly screams; it throws him into convulsions so that he foams at the mouth. It scarcely ever leaves him and is destroying him. 40I begged your disciples to drive it out, but they could not."
41"O unbelieving and perverse generation," Jesus replied, "how long shall I stay with you and put up with you? Bring your son here."
42Even while the boy was coming, the demon threw him to the ground in a convulsion. But Jesus rebuked the evil spirit, healed the boy and gave him back to his father. 43And they were all amazed at the greatness of God.
While everyone was marveling at all that Jesus did, he said to his disciples, 44"Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you: The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men." 45But they did not understand what this meant. It was hidden from them, so that they did not grasp it, and they were afraid to ask him about it.
Healing was a big part of Jesus' ministry...Much is written on His power of healing in all the four gospels...Large crowds saw Him heal many...Healing was very important to Him...It helped prove He was divine...It proved He was the Son of God...Healing is an important part of everyone's lives...It is important when we are sick, when our relatives are sick, when our friends are sick that we be healed...
Jesus, Peter, John and James came down from mountain, where He had been transformed with Moses and Elijah...A large crowd knew they were on the mountain...The crowd awaited to see Him, and to see and hear what He was going to do next...A man in the crowd called out to Him..."Teacher, I beg You to look at my son, for he is my only child."...
A spirit would seize the young boy and make him scream...The spirit would throw him into convulsions so that he foams at the mouth...The evil spirit rarely leaves him and is destroying him...The father begged Jesus' disciples to it drive it out, but they could not...The disciples, the father is talking about, are the nine others, beside Peter, John, and James...These three had been on the sacred mountain with Jesus, while He was being transformed with Moses and Elijah...
Jesus says "O unbelieving and perverse generation...How long shall I stay with you and put up with you?...Bring your son here."... Both the disciples and Jesus would have been upset, by their not being able to remove the evil spirit from the young boy...Jesus teaches the Twelve (and also us) they need faith and prayer to overcome evil and the power of the evil one...
As the boy approaches Jesus, the evil spirit throws the boy to the ground...Jesus rebukes the evil spirit and heals the boy...He gives the boy back to his father...The crowd watching are all amazed...All the people are amazed at the greatness of God...
While everyone was marveling at what He had just done He spoke to His disciples...He told them to "Listen carefully to what I AM about to tell you: The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men."...The Twelve did not understand what this meant and were afraid to ask Him about what He had just said...
We all should be amazed by the greatness of God...It is great that Jesus was resurrected...He lives...God has given knowledge and healing gifts to past and present healers and doctors for us...We have access to modern doctors and modern medicine...We still have access to Him through our prayers when we are sick and need healing... Illness and sickness make us uncomfortable...In His Sermons on the Mount and Plain, He teaches us when we are uncomfortable and search for Him...In these times of need, we need Him...And we do need Him...Faith is as much about the future, as it is about now...When we have faith we believe in the better future with Jesus...Being healed is about the future...When we are sick we believe and hope to feel better in the future, as we go through our process of healing...When we are sick, we should pray that Jesus is with us in this process...
What we do on earth is very important...Jesus healed many...What Jesus did while He was on earth is very important...He was divine, and did great healings and teachings, while He was on earth...If one or both of the criminals that were crucified with Jesus were resurrected three days later, what would we learn from this?...The people would have thought what is this world coming too, and/or the world is changing, how is this happening...But not many of the people would think that resurrected criminal or criminals was or were the Messiah...What they had done on earth were not good things, but evil things...They wound up being crucified for their criminal activity...What we do on earth during our time here is very important...What Jesus did on earth, while He was here was very important...
