Luke 7:11-17
Jesus Raises a Widow's Son
11Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went along with him. 12As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. 13When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, "Don't cry."
14Then he went up and touched the coffin, and those carrying it stood still. He said, "Young man, I say to you, get up!" 15The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.
16They were all filled with awe and praised God. "A great prophet has appeared among us," they said. "God has come to help his people." 17This news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding country.
Jesus has power over death...Jesus overcame death when God raised Him (from the dead)...He also had the power and divine ability to raise people from death to life...So, Jesus when we die can bring us back to life...
In some theologian writer's eyes one may think that we are dead if we are not following the Father and the Son...While that may be true, our Messiah is not limited by nature and nature's laws...Jesus is divine...He was resurrected...He truly "still" lives...
St. Luke tells us Jesus had compassion for a widow, when He visited the town of Nain...Jesus touched the coffin...Those holding the coffin stood still...Jesus said "Young man, I say to you get up...The dead man sat up...The man began to talk... Jesus gave the son back to his mother...The man would live again...
The people of Nain were awed and praised the power of God... God had come to help His people...He was helping His people... This news spread throughout Nain, Judea and the surrounding country...
Jesus has the power to bring life out of death...This miracle was bringing an earthly life back from the dead...The raised widow's son in Nain would die again...No doubt he would not look upon death as he had before...
Let's seek His compassion and know that the Gospel teaches us that Jesus lived on earth and has the power over death...He can raise us to eternal life (life in Heaven with the Father and Son)...
God's compassion was so that He sent His son to die for our sins and to save us...God resurrected Jesus back to eternal life...This is the divine power of Jesus and the message of the Gospel...
