Matthew 6:9-13
The Lord's Prayer
9 "This, then, is how you should pray:
" 'Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.'
Luke 9:35
Our Father Tells Us to Listen to His Son
35 A voice came from the cloud, saying, "This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him."
John 14:15-21
15 “If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”
Acts 17:24-31
God is Over the Universe
24 “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. 25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. 26 From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. 27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. 28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’
29 “Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by human design and skill. 30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. 31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.”
Jesus taught about prayer and gives us the His prayer...There is great importance to prayer...He starts His prayer with Our Father in Heaven...Jesus recognizes the importance here of the first words of His Prayer...When we start a prayer with Our Father in Heaven or Our Heavenly Father, it is good...There are things that come to mind...He is our Father, and we have a relationship with our Father...He is intimate with us, because He is a Father, our Father...Jesus is teaching us that His Father is our Father and He wants us to be near Him...And He is very near us...He has indwelt His Holy Spirit in us...Being and saying that He is in Heaven, we recognize that He is over us and made the world and everything in it and He is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples or houses that were built by human hands...God is not served by man, because He does not need anything...Rather, it is man who has needs and wants...Man needs things and has needs and wants...So man will ask for things and through pray we ask for many different things...This is part of man's very nature...For God is holy and over the entire universe...We are His offspring and His children and He wants us to repent and follow Him and His Son and listen to His Son...He wants us to follow His Son's teachings...And He proved all of these things about His Son by raising Him from the dead...
Jesus tells us to ask His Father to forgive us of our debts and our sins, as we forgive others of debts and the sins of our neighbors...The Holy Spirit indwelt in us guides us to forgive others and to love our neighbors...Believers who follows His commands and keeps them are the ones who loves Him...The ones who love Jesus will be loved by His Father, and He too will love them and show Himself to them...
Even though we pray to our Father, it is evident there will be problems...The world can be evil...We are easily lead into temptation...And the evil one is around to give the world its own set of problems, and wars, and sad headlines the we read...So He teaches us to pray to not fall into temptations, and to protect us from the evil one...So let us pray that our Father, who is over the universe, gives us our daily bread and helps and protects us in our daily lives..
