Luke 10:38-42
FIRST Things First
38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"
41 "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."
When I read the Bible for the first time there were many lessons and teachings from Jesus that I saw quickly...When studying Him, I sometimes found more than one lesson in His teachings...But when I read, this story about Mary and Martha, I was a little stumped...After all, wasn't Martha working hard, and Mary just listening to Jesus...We are faced with multiple choices in our daily lives quite often...It took me a while, but now I understand the important message He is telling us...
Today has been especially busy...I have been a little behind, with many things to do...I have put off reading and studying my Bible...I thought I would do my errands first and then find time for the LORD...As I worked today, I felt distracted and guilty as I worked...I was not putting FIRST things first...I was putting the less important things ahead of my LORD...I have not chosen the better, for I have chosen as Martha and not like Mary...
