Luke 10:38-42
At the Home of Martha and Mary
38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"
41 "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."
Matthew 11:28-30
His Yoke is Easy and He Gives Us Rest
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
I almost always read my Bible and study my Bible before noon...If I do not read it before twelve, I for some reason or another usually do not get back to it or the LORD...
Throughout my life my mindset is when I am busy, I like to get up early and get my work done and then on to the next thing...When I am especially busy, I have ignored my Bible, and in a sense ignored the LORD for those days -when I am really busy...If you have a stressful project going on at work going and you need to get to work early, or if you are busy at home preparing for a busy day (you should read your Bible, before you go to work or start those stressful projects and busyness)...You should take the time to be with the LORD...
The holiday season is often a time of stress...We often have many things going and many things on our minds...If we ignore Him on our tough days and our stressful days, it is a mistake...Jesus encourages Martha that sitting and listening to His Word (as her sister is doing) is a very good thing...Martha could use the break from the work she is doing, from the tone we get in the above verses...His yoke is easy and His burden is light...We can find rest for our souls, when He is with us and on our minds...This is especially so, when we are busy, have a lot to do, and are under stress, we need Him to be with us on those days...
So as Mary sat while Martha worked, the sitting was the better thing to do, because she was listening to Jesus...
