Luke 11:29-32
The Sign of Jonah
29 As the crowds increased, Jesus said, "This is a wicked generation. It asks for a miraculous sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah. 30 For as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so also will the Son of Man be to this generation. 31 The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them; for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon's wisdom, and now one greater than Solomon is here. 32 The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now one greater than Jonah is here.
As Jesus crowds increased they ask Him for a miraculous sign...Jesus did miracles, but I am not sure He wanted to or likes to...He wants our faith be based on our hearts, and not on one or more specific miracles...
Even today, I have heard that the modern atheist wants God to do a modern miracle...Then they would believe...When we really think about it, should we ask and do people of faith really want a miracle right here and right now?...While the atheist wants proof, the believer has His faith...It is possible if the non-believer gets a miracle, they might ask for another...
Jesus gave not only His followers proof after proof, and sign after sign -miracle after miracle...But they wanted more signs, more miracles...Still many did not believe Him, or have faith in Him, after what He had done...And Jesus gave us the sign of Jonah, by being crucified, His death and burial, and then He was raised back to life after being dead for three days...And still some do not believe...
