Luke 12:32-34
Treasures that Will Never Wear Out
32 “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Jesus teaches us that there are treasures that last, and there are treasures that wear out...There are things on earth that wear out and certain things that do not wear out...Certain things bring us pleasure on earth and the pleasure leaves us sometimes quickly...We should examine how long do these things on earth bring us pleasure...Are their joys and desires that last and last for us, and can we do without those treasures?...Then, how would we feel...For instance, if we enjoy food, a hobby, like golf let's say, or money how long do these bring us joy...If we enjoy food or golf, the pleasures they bring are temporary and must be done over and over to get the pleasure of that treasure...If one loves to golf, he or she does not golf, all the time, or they might become somewhat bored with the game of golf...If you enjoy a certain food, you would not enjoy it if you ate it, and continued to eat it all day, that would not be enjoyable...Money is something that Jesus spoke about, and we know He teaches that the love of money is not good...Money only brings joy for a time, and for many it brings security, but it does not bring a permanent joy...Many think that money bring one happiness but it does not in itself...Something is usually, if not always, wanted when one has money, something more (is wanted)...
The important things of faith, hope, and love, the eternities, do not wear out...Other things on earth Jesus uses the analogy of a purse, which normally contains money, and purses wear out...Purses, which hold money, wear out...And He teaches us, in the sense, the happiness or joy of the purse and the in it money wears out...Something else is needed to find a permanent treasure and to have a permanent treasure...Jesus tells us to sell our possessions and be charitable to the poor...This brings a happiness, and in His teachings, a generous giver is loved by God...This is a characteristic of Jesus, He is the example of giving everything to us (His life) for our sins...
When we think about the times we are happy on earth, and only think about our really happy times, we reflect and see the feeling is and has been temporary...Jesus wants us to focus on the eternities of faith, hope, love, and God...These things are permanent...God is everlasting to everlasting...On Jesus' argument on money, how happy would you be if you had all the money in the world and were the only one in the world -what do you have...What kind of treasure is this?...Those who have money want more, a partner a spouse...After your spouse you may want a bigger house, a better car, it seems there is something else (you will want)...
For those who believe in Jesus and that He is the way, the truth, and the life -there is no more...The Father and Son are the permanent treasures...The Trinity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit encompass the entire eternities of truth, faith, hope, love, and the soul...These are the permanent treasures...These treasures never wear out...They are everlasting to everlasting...They are eternal...They are the Alpha to the Omega...
